Title: Exhaust questions
Scotimier - November 5, 2005 03:51 AM (GMT)
:( I need to replace my exhaust, and I'm having a hard time finding much for my bike. I have an 85 xj700 maxim X, I can probably get by with just replacing mufflers, but would like to try and find an entire system if possible, Jardine used to make a kit, but they no longer show a listing, plus it was just a 4 into 1 system, would like to keep the 4 into 2 setup. Any ideas or links would be great, also did all the xj models from 80 to 86 use the same exhaust system, because I found one listing in an old dennis kirk catalog that shows them all using the same part numbers?

i'm not real knowledgable on the 750x but you might want to try MAC they still have systems for the 1100 in both 4-2 and 4-1 .

Looks like the 1100 system would be different, an old Jardine listing shows all the xj from 80-86 using the same part number for a kit they apparently no longer make, this includes xj650 maxims, xj650 seca, xj750 maxim, xj750m, xj650r, xj700 maxim. I'm wondering if someone makes a system for one of these bikes still that would work on the maxim X, but I remember seeing a listing that showed an exhaust for the maxima few years ago that had an asterick by it that said except for maxim X, I don't want to shell out $$$ for something that won't work.

Bikebandit.com has a Mac listing for an 85-86 XJ700 Maxim, but not a maxim X. Don't know if they would be the same. You could email them and find out. Price was $ 308.00. complete system.

You may also want to try looking at VANCE & HINES and Kerker Exhaust systems.Kerker exhaust systems are hard to find but worth the search if you can find one.
Here is a link where they still sell Jardine exhausts for cheap
http://www.motorcyclemart.com/exhausts/jar.../jardineyam.htm around 300 bucks
You may also want to check out
http://www.motorcycleproshop.com/ I know that they sell Mac exhausts for the XJ750 for $259.25 4-1 Chrome and 4 into 2 Chrome for $277.75 Also try
http://www.mawonline.com after you find the part number your looking for they have great prices but poor web site. For example they sell progressive front fork springs for less than 50 bucks which is much better than the price at oldbikebarn.com where they sell them for 99 bucks. But I used there web site to find the part number than went to Mawonline to buy the springs.

I'm having an exhaust problem on an '85 xj700 and the only exhaust solution I've found is a MAC 4 into 2 system.
I have had a couple of friends use MAC before and I just don't like the quality (junk). I've searched high and low for a system because one of my down tubes has a rust hole in it near the bottom so I must replace it/the whole system.
Any good junkyards out there for parts?
