Hey guys,I just inherited a '82 xj 650..Here's my problem....
The carbs are freshly cleaned, gas is ATLEAST moving through the fuel filter and into the carbs,or seem to be.If I try to start the bike it just will not do it,it turns and everything goes and it's getting fire, but no start.
BUT if you spray gas into the carbs with a spray bottle(yeah it's a stupid thing to do) it starts and runs untill you quit spraying.
Anywho,if I can get gas into the carbs I can start working on my bikes's looks, and in a few weeks ACTUALLY RIDE IT!!!!!!!
Thanks!
Meyer
Sounds like the same problem I had. I had cleaned out my carbs very well a couple different times but gas still wasn't getting to the engine. Turned out some of the pilot jet passages in the bowls had become reclogged (possibly from garbage in the gas tank, who knows). But I cleaned them out once more and the bike started just fine.
Good luck.
when i got mine the previous owner took it upon his self to drill out the caps on the factory capped (jet?) settings, and proceed to set them himself......right. anyways it didnt run at all either unless feed thru carbs. had to take it to my master mech.... father n law and he set them back correctly and has been fine ever since. he keeps tellin me "buy a new bike and you won't have such problems" thats easy to say when you ride a 2004 v-star 1100 custom like he does.
Thanks guys,I'll re check those, although getting the throttle line back on is NOT what I had in mind for today!
