I think the carbs from the XJ750 and the XJ700 are the same. You may want to give the guys at http://freedomcycle.ca/ a call to see if they are the same. They have a lot of parts at cheap prices too. Very knowledgeable as well.

For all practical rebuild kits, yes. The standard kits come with float valve needles, seats and gaskets. The difference between the Hitachi carbs are that 650's have 112 main jets and 750's have 120 main jets. Both have .40 idle jets in North America. European models have .43 idle jets. I don't know if the latter year 700's had Hitachi carbs. If they had Mikuni's then I will have to check further. I don't have my CD with me now. What year is your XJ 700?

Unless your needles and seats are grooved all you need is gaskets. Aftermarket places like K+L are notorious for having the jets sized wrong but the right number on them. Just clean you old jets and it will work fine. Be sure to clean out the choke hole in the float bowl as they are tough to get clean sometimes. Spray contact cleaner through them to make sure.

Sorry for late post but my DSL was down for 2 days. I checked the XJ CD and the 85 700 had Hitachis HSC 33 carbs where the 650 and 750 had HSC 32's. The float seat may be the same or may not. So make sure the kit is for your bike.

well shit, i cant find a rebuild kit for the 700's :(

I checked Old Bike Barn and the K&L kit for the XJ 700 is the same kit for the 750. Here is a link.

Changing the carbs would be possible but the carb intake manifolds might have to be changed. The 32 and 33 in the Hitachi carbs refers to the main venturi throat diameter. The HSC 32 has a 32 mm. throat diameter and the 33 a 33mm. In short the other kits will work. Hope this helps.

ok so 100% without a doubt the rebuild kit for the 750 will work?

xj700 - December 3, 2005 06:30 PM (GMT)
