I am rebuilding an 82 650 Maxim. It has a switch activated by the clutch handle, and I am wondering what the function of it is?
<_<

The clutch switch is there so you can pull the clutch in and start the bike while its in gear .

Thanks, thats what I thought. The bike is not running yet, so unable to test it.

Another electrical question: is there a non OEM TS flasher (thinking automotive) that will work as a replacement? The signals work if I manipulate the relay inside the signal flasher, but will not flash on their own.

Watch that Kick stand switch as well, notorious for causing problems.
If you remove the clutch switch like I have for custom work, not recomended for inexperienced, you will need to short the two leads from the plug together.
The blinkers can usually be cured by removing the switch and cleaning all the contacts and reassembling with plenty of electrical grease.
