Title: 82 Maxim Break question

Fropa - April 14, 2005 06:18 PM (GMT)
I changed the front break pads on my Maxim and decided to also change the break fluid. I drained the line and cleaned the remaining fluid from the reservoir. I added new fluid and tried to bleed it through the break line, but the fluid will not go into the line. The line is not plugged and as far as I could tell nothing got into the hole to plug it. Is there some secret technique to get the break line primed and the breaks working again?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You might undo the line in the middle, put your thumb over hole and bleed til you get pressure.

It can take ages before you start to get any results. As Richard says sometimes you have to "prime" the line but disconnecting it and then pumping some fluid through it before reconnecting and carrying on as usual. Ensure that you wash off any spilt fluid as soon as you can, it is a great paint stripper!!!

Get a little plastic syringe from home depot for 2 bucks. Use it to feed fluid from the bleed nozzles up through the system. Works great for me every time. Takes 2 minutes.

Thanks for all the advice. Finally got them working today. Used a variation of the reverse fill technique. Now it's ready to ride. Too bad the MSF course isn't until next month.
