Quick question for the XJ900 Gurus out there (you know who you are:)), I am not familiar with the color schemes for the 1983 models. The bike in the picture I am attaching, is the color a US color, and the rear fender looks a little longer to me?

Also, did they put on Bridgestones as the original tires?

    XJ900 USA paint scheme.jpg

This is the original paint scheme for USA (except for the black areas at the rear of the tank). As you can see, it is slightly different from the one you pictured.

    xj900 Canada paint scheme.jpg

This is the white paint scheme.

    xj900 black paint scheme.jpg
And this is my favorite, the rare black scheme.

This said , I don't consider mayself as an xj900 guru...

Thanks for the input, guys. The main thing that threw me off was the XJ900 on the sidecovers. The one in the picture I posted appears to have it painted on, or with decals, where some of the others appear to be actual badges.

The reason I ask these questions is I found a guy who claims to have one with only *two* miles on it, which I find nearly impossible to believe, so I wanted to get as much info as possible before I talked to him!

Original covers should have the Seca900 badges on, of course. The XJ900 decals seem very popular, though.

Damn...I have three Seca900s and the three of them had the rear fender shorter than original.

As far as I know... The USA ones came from the factory with short rear fenders. I've only ever seen the longer ones on:

    1. Non-USA 900r/750rl models

    2. The 650r ( non-turbo ) .... Of which many WERE cut to shorten them. The long rear fender shown on the 900's above appears to be the same fender for the 650r ( non-turbo)--- which was also the standard European xj650.

That makes me think that the short fender may be a USA, and everyone else got either the long fender, or some of each.....

Yeah, I just checked it out. That is one of the things I am missing for mine, the fairing...

Mine has the short fender also, but did not know if it was standard, or cut...

I think Dave is right, all North American Seca900s and Seca750RLs should have come out of the factory with short rear fenders.

The USA 900's did not come with the lower chin, either.

Also, some of the 750rl's came without a fairing and had a big round headlight. All the USA 900's came with either the smaller fork-mounted fairing. The slightly later 900r's had a larger frame mounted fairing, as well as slightly increased displacement though still a 900r.

I finally got through to the guy, and he sold it. I was (and still am) kinda doubtful about the less than three miles claim, he said he got it at an estate sale, so who knows. But thanks for all the knowledge, Ill be better prepared for the next one!

if they are all the same size its probaly factory chance of 3 different people cutting the same size is slim

$1,900.00 in his listing. I was tempted to ask him what he sold it for, but he did not seem very conversational, so I did not.

Here is another one I just saw, but the seller is asking $1,200.00 (firm), and it seems pretty rough, with high miles at that price...

Yes, the black scheme is pretty sharp. Not sure if I will return mine to an original paint job when I get around to working on it...if I do, will probably be the red/white/blue scheme...its a USA thing :)

Since I have a couple of 900 aficionados attention here...are there any fairings, either Yamaha (besides the 900 ones) or aftermarket that will fit these bikes without a monumental amount of difficulty? Mine was missing a few bits when I got it, 90% or so I have managed to get, except for the fairing. I could see leaving the fairing off, but then the original gauges would have to go, as they look pretty clunky without a fairing, but I kind of like them!

Actually, the white, red and blue scheme seems to be more common in Canada.

The red/blue on white is NOT a USA thing.

USA bikes were black/silver on red.

The USA bikes had the gray scoops right under the tank, many others did not have them. The tank is slightly different, too, as two of the three mounting points on the scoop attach to the tank.

the price seems to be in the ball park, missing the triple tree bolt some trim missing too. and aftermarket exhaust. isn't this supposed to be one of those rare bikes in the US? 1000 in the US
    according to the paint thread.

Woah.... There is so much wrong with that bike!

I WOULD be interested in the serial number, if anyone is able to get it--I could at least get it onto the registry ( if it's not already on)

I've only had two decline the question......I explain who I am, and they usually are more than happy to offer info that will help the collective knowledge base.

What I was trying to say was I liked the red/white/blue because they are the colors of the American flag; I was not riding in 1983... they could have been flamingo pink for all I know :)
