I just checked this bike out as it is literally 2 blocks from my work.
There is not much to be excited about, it is just too far gone for any reasonable restoration.
I already have a rust free RJ tank but it needs a dent repaired. The tank on this one is showing serious rust and would need more work than the one I have now.
I made a deal to swap his valve cover for a Turbo valve cover.
I hope it fits, sure looks tidier than that YICS 3-stripes thing.

The seller said the fact it has a registration is why he values it as high as stated.
The motor turns but I noticed broken upper case where the RH crank end cap bolts on.
    Also broken cooling fins.
Might be of value to someone trying to right a messed up bobber frame.

It's funny when they say they replaced the air box with pods for better performance. Like there are a bunch of Yamaha engineers standing around going 'Why didn't we think of that?'

It's more like the air filter costs $100 (in Canada) and you can buy some pods from China for $20.

Well.....a lot of people DO replace the airbox with pods THINKING they will get better performance. BUT---the reality for a lot of them is that they then find out that they DIDN'T GET better performance that they THOUGHT they would, though.....

    The wmblemnis the same.

The pipes are slightly different, they do sort of interchange, but realize that the angles and lengths vary-- sonit may not fit as snug as you'd like. Personally, I found you can swap things around as long as you use all 4 pipes from one model.--- 4 maxim pipes on the seca, 4 seca pipes on the maxim.....

But also--realize that the collector snouts vary in length, and the heat shields are different lengths too. So long and short of it--- thing can switch around, but they won't necessarily fit as good or look as good. I would be cautious of trying to mix and match a set pipes though

I keep seeing these individual NOS pipes come up from time to time and I always have in my mind that maybe I could slowly piece together a set of brand new pipes

I have the same dream. Currently I have a pretty good set of 4 from a 700n for my project bike but #4 has a good dent in it. We need someone who has an assortment from the various models to lay them out on top of each other for comparison, someone did this for gas tank fitment, anyone know who I'm referring? LOL.

This is a TX500 right ? Not a XS500 I think. This is the little Brother to the TX750, which has a nice powerband, but Yamaha in all their ingenuity, forgot about keeping non-frothy oil in the engine. This mistake is a lot like the mistake in that the Seca 750 needs to have it's cases split to fix the (another) starter problem.

That is a 1983 or earlier xj750 Seca. It is not a TX, and it is not 1987. Too bad it's not close to me, I'd have bought it already.....the right side cover is still there!!! Lol. That's a steal of a parts bike. The seat is still on it, the airbox is still on it.......the carbs are crusty, but appear intact-----I would be a bit surprised if the engine is still good. With all those things in place, it would be very hard for water to get inside unless the spark plugs are loose.....

Yup. It's not an XJ, and it isn't a 650. I guess it could be an 850......
