FJ600 fuel injection

    I'm looking at a set of R6 throttle bodys to replace the old CV carbs with pod filters since i can't seem to keep the carbs tune set after a ride or 2 it always acts like a vacuum leak but cant find one. I'm looking at a microsquirt ecu with a custom set of intake boots that i can make. I have access to a TIG welder, lathe, and a mill so manufacturing custom intake boots shouldn't be an issue. But is there anything i should watch for like fitment between frame rails or the charging system able to power the units effectively ?

    I was just looking at a set of those on ebay and wondering if they will fit a 550.

    There is a thread or two about putting fuel injection on an XJ but I dont recall the model or author without searching it out. If I remember correctly there was quite a bit of detailed information that may at least give you an idea of what you would be in for.

    Don't you also need a load more sensors and a high pressure fuel pump for efi to work properly - it's not for the faint-hearted. Refurbing carbs and the inlet tract is a yard and a half easier IMO.

    At a minimum, you need two. Three is good. Four is if you want to get fancy.

    I'm not sure 2-3 sensors is a "load", but it is more than 0.

    FP is easy.

    Hard parts of EFI are finding a throttle body that fits and mounting the oxygen sensor - you need to find a good spot and weld in a bung.

    After that, it's just plug in the wires and play with the computer.

    Except for buggered screws, stripped jets, and the thrice-damned floats.

    It's all a matter of skillset. I know guys who are very adept at FI who won't touch carbs because they are "too complicated".

    I'm the same way about FI, even though I understand it pretty well. I just hate messing with programming. I can do it, but it's not fun for me.

    .. which looks challenging to me.

    Maybe only a few sensors then but still hassle, then you have to tit about with maps 'til kingdom come. I can see it sucking up a lot of time if you're a) not careful or b) inexperienced.
