I just got a new set of brake lines for my 82 XJ750J, since mine were still the original cables with a manufacture date of 81 printed on them. I cut into them in various places, and they didn't look cracked or bad, but that doesn't mean they aren't brittle and dangerous. I was going to update the pictures in the "Why you should replace your brake lines" but they weren't bad enough to easily see a problem.

As for the order process, Len was awesome to work with. I sent him the part numbers I wanted, and he replied with the rest of the parts I might need for that specific brake job - crush washers, banjo bolts, and advice. I ended up getting a bit more than I originally intended because I hadn't thought about needing to replace the crush washers, so Len helped me out there for sure.

Once I got my parts, it came with a great packet of information with advice and instructions for the marked ends of the lines. Shipping was fast, and payment was painless with Paypal. I even got some cool stickers featuring an XJ engine after I mentioned I liked the design! I added that to my computer case, it looks great.

Len seems like a great guy running a great business. He's knowledgeable (and gave me advice on a separate issue I was having at the outset of my order), he's got a every part I could possibly need, and obviously cares about his customers. He'll definitely get more of my business as I continue working on my bike.

Thanks Len, I received my carb parts for my 1982 Maxim in 3 days and couldn't be happier. I was skeptical with the ordering process at first, but will for sure continue to order parts through you for my now "vintage" bike.

Great customer service and follow through!

I second Todd Hoffman's experience. I've never engaged in an ordering process quite like this but it works perfectly. I just received my second order today (high performance clutch) and am scheduled to received oil filters and spark plugs tomorrow. Dealing with Len is a great experience and a great learning experience as well. Kudos Len!!

Len provided excellent service and displayed a thorough knowledge of the parts I required for an old XJ750RL. Parts arrived via a friend who works for QANTAS, to avoid the overseas delay. 5 days to an outback town in Australia must be some sort of record IMO. By the way Len all parts correct and fitted. Now just need to crank her over. Which resulted in petrol gushing out of one of the carby hoses. More about that in another thread.

I have bought a fair amount of items from chacal, have gotten all parts ordered in a timely fashion and always the correct parts.
Chacal is keeping my bike on the road, and for that I thank him.

Len has been absolutely amazing in his knowledge and speed of his delivery!
I made the mistake of buying a Front Brake Caliper Rebuild kit from BrakeCrafters that specifically had it labeled for my bike, I struggled to get THEIR piston in with no success, tried doing it by hand, C-Clamp, freezing the piston and heating the caliper.... only the have the Fluid seal tear on both of them.

Len quickly deciphered that they had sent my a kit that was truly for a different model and they just group them all as the same.
Yes, Lens products cost more, but THEY WORK!
I cleaned and polished my stock caliper pistons, used Len's Caliper Seals, and everything slide in easily by hand with firm force.
I ended up wasting time and slowing down my project by 2 weeks becasue I tried to go with a cheaper alternative and ended up still buying from Len like I should have in the first place :p

Here are the photos of the difference between the Stock and BrakeCrafters.

I already put in another order for more parts from Len such as boots and new bleeder screw since I used the old ones like a plug..

    And my finished Calipers!!!!!

New Valve Cover Gasket and Pressure Washers are on the way from XJ4Ever! Its valve adjustment time again for Veronika.

Thanks to Len for another fast turnaround - quote, sold, and shipped in a day (maybe less even)!

Note to anyone watching the feed for new posts: ADJUST YOUR DANG VALVES! And remember the flashing logo on the top right of the forum is where to get the parts you'll need.

I received the Break Hoses, bolts and crush washers that I had ordered for an 1982 XJ750J sooner than I had expected them. They look great and should fit well. I am happy that I had checked in with this forum and went with the Steel hoses rather than the rubber ones as advised. Thank you Len for the help and for the fast delivery. -John Cassidy Abington, PA

My petcock was leaking. Emailed Len some questions Thursday night and received a reply within an hour. Placed my order Friday night and it was shipped immediately. I received my parts on Monday. I don't think I have ever worked with a vendor that moved this fast! Will definitely buy from him again when the next thing on my bike fails lol!

I just got parts for the carbs on my 1980 midnight special. I emailed back and forth with Len a few times for help in what I needed and what I didn't need. Len responded quickly to my questions with very helpful answers. Parts arrived quickly and my first carb is back together and ready to go. Only three more to go <grin>.

I highly recommend reading the great information in the How-To section of xj4ever then order needed parts from Len.

As usual, had some hard to find stuff, in stock, and at reasonable prices.

The parts did the trick. A pack of throttle shaft seals later and the bike can idle properly. no more run away idle.

I also bought throttle seals and fuel pipe o-rings from Len. I was very impressed with the service and speed at which I received the parts. Not to mention the vast amount of knowledge and experience available at the xj4ever site! I'll defiantly be contacting him again the next time I need parts for my bike.

I’ve ordered from Len ( @chacal ) almost every April for the last few years as I prep my bike for each season. Shipping is fast, service is great, and products are excellent. If you need something and can’t find it, just ask and he’s always super helpful. Don’t buy knock offs on Amazon or eBay when you can buy the real thing from him.

Absolutely a pleasure doing business with Len. He got back to me right away and shipped out super fast. High quality idle mix screw sets, they look and work great (especially compared to my old ones... don't even ask how I had to get those out! ).

Good to know someone out there sells so many well made parts for these. Will definitely be ordering more stuff as my work on this bike continues. Thanks Len!

Sorry I ddn't see this sooner. The 750/650 Maxim and Seca all use the same TCI

    Well, not really...........

The 1980-81 XJ650 Maxim models use their own unique TCI (black label, ID code 4H7-10). The 1982 XJ650RJ Seca non-yics engined models used their own unique TCI (green label, ID code 5V2-10); the later Canadian-only XJ650RJC models (with the yics engines) used the more common TCI (red label, ID code 5G2-10) which also used on the 1981-84 XJ750 Maxim, 1981-83 XJ750 Seca models, and the yics-engined XJ650 Maxim models (1982-84).

The non-yics TCI (4H7-10) and the later yics TCI's (5G2-10) are basically identical, except the earlier 4H7-10 TCI boxes don't have the grounding terminal for the kickstand safety switches, mainly because those early bikes didn't have a kickstand safety switch!

The non-yics RJ Seca box (5V2-10) had a slightly different timing advance profile than the regular 4H7-10 or 5G2-10 boxes, and, like the 4H7-10 box, didn't have a channel for the (not-used) sidestand safety switch.

I thought these were different timing as suggested but the 82 650 Seca does have a side stand switch. Therefore, the 5V2-10 TCI has the terminal for the black and white wire to disable the TCI.

Rooster, you are exactly right, thanks for the update!

Also, if I recall correctly, you can use the 5G2-10 TCI (with the ground wire for sidestand switch) in place of the earlier 4H7-10 non-sidestand unit.
