    Parts diagram lists it as
22N-15416-01-00. Does anyone know if one from a different bike would fit?[IMG]

    Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that the 1983-84 XJ750 Midnight Maxim pump covers (NOTE: the MIDNIGHT maxim covers only! The standard 1982-83 XJ750 Maxim covers are different) and the 1984 XJ750RL Seca covers are the same physical size/shape covers, but will differ in finish and emblem type (YICS vs. DOHC badges). Your pictured 1983 XJ900RK should use the cover with the YICS emblem, bright polished finish, black-painted Y A M A H A wording.

We have brand new left or right covers, with either the YICS or the DOHC emblems, but they aren't cheap.

We also have the YICS or the DOHC badges (only) available if you are just trying to restore an older cover.

Thanks Chacal, it doesn't have to be historically accurate, I've already moved the better one off of this bike onto another 900 Seca. As long as it doesn't say Suzuki I'm ok with that. The one that I have is cracked but I'd rather fix it with JB Weld than pay $180 for another one...

They are a tad brittle, and usually when you think you have a dented one, in reality it is usually cracked as well. But you can tig weld and dress them. Find someone in your are that welds Ali, shouldn't cost you much - like $20 bucks?

Țhanks, yes, it's cracked but I didn't think it was weldable. If Hogfiddles doesn't have one I might have to go that route.

I may be wrong....and the Fiddles can correct me here if I am.....but I don't believe that all of the "other" round pump covers (like on XJ550, XJ650, XJ700, etc.) covers will actually work on a 900 engine....the design and shape of the cover is different, the models that I mentioned above use a very shallow, "edgeless" cover which doesn't even have bolt "holes" in it. The 900 (and others noted prior) use a very shallow cover and a separate supporting structure, whereas the XJ550 etc. covers have the support structure and the "dish" all integrated as one structure. While it may be possible to use a 550 (etc.) cover on a 900 engine, you'd have to do away with the support structure, the rubber ring, and the lock plate.......and even then, I'm not sure that they'd fit, and even if they did, they might look very odd.

    Hog, let us know!

The silvery part is broken but the piece that it's fastened to from the back is ok. You can see the backplate sandwiched between the silver piece and the block. I'llrage a picture of the back when I get home.

Thank you fit all your help guys! Polish_20210807_123028932.jpg

This is my current commuter bike, an 83 900 Seca that I painted to look like the Canadian version. I have 3 other 900 Secas and I think Dave probably has 10 of them...

I like the Canadian paint job seems like it went to the wrong location though maybe that's just me

That was my 1st 900 and I didn't know much about them at the time but it's always liked the 1980s Honda Interceptors and at the time the red hadn't grown on me yet. It came to me as a redneck Midnight Special but I transformed it using good 'ol Rustoleum (see attached before/after picture). The dark blue seat and blue windscreen are my ?artistic touches. Here's the one that I'm replacing. I think the black base is reusable. 20210807_225740.jpg 20210807_225740.jpg

Are these covers generic to the XJ engines? I will check the pile of retired parts and see if there is one from a long since gone 650 and get back to you. Do you want the "YICS" cover or a plain one?

Hi Fuller. Thank you but XJ550H has already found one for me. Apparently there are only a couple of models that this part is interchangeable with (see Chacal's response).

I believe that is correct. The midnight ones are finished in black. I THINK THE 750rl ones are brushed aluminum, not bright like the 900, but not positive on that.....

I think I have a midnight 750 one to compare, and I’ll see about others fitting just for fitting’s sake

yes they all cross fit from the 550 650 750 900 , the 650 has plain covers for the non yics which are nice for those who want to etch or paint some design to the cover.

the 900 cover has a plastic base rim with an alumninm face cover.

So, only the 900 has the plastic base and the discs that attach to them are somewhat interchangeable?

The disc is interchangeable between just the 900 and the midnight.... probably the 750rl but I don’t have one to verify

Correct, and the 750RL uses it, too.
