i hit a snag today, i mounted the diff and tightened everything up..... all looking great but the wheel wont turn...... closer inspection and a bit of head scratching....... arse, it turns out to be the spindle, as i've used an axle plate the spindle is no longer fitting at the correct length. i need to mill 8mm off the thick end of the spindle to allow it to lock against the axle plate and therefore not lock the wheel together under tension. the worst part of this whole drama is i cut had out the newly welded diff mounts before i worked out it was the spindle.

never mind, i'll not do it again

How do you keep the gear housing from wanting to rotate "clockwise" as you look at it in your last pic ??

It should exhibit maybe 900 foot pounds of torque in 1 st gear.

The dif mounting plate that has been on and off the frame twice now will fix it in position. I've used the end inch of the swinging arm plated around it and braced it onto the frame. when the part for my mig arives and i can get it welded back into the frame i'll take some close up pics that will explain it better

by looking at the "how low" pic it looks like you could run a wider tire by leaving the drive shaft housing off. If you could cut it down and make a dust seal for the rear end of it to keep that pesky wales mud out? I don't know I'm just shooting out ideas. Looks like your comming right along though, nice work.

The driveshaft housing is a integral part of the swingarm. If you removed it there would be nothing to keep the differential aligned and all of the bikes weight would be on the right side of the swingarm. I would imagine that one good bump would be enough to bend it and cause some serious damage to the bike.

AHA ! So you're going to weld the last inch of the driveshaft tube to the plate at the end of the frame.

Nice looking welds by the way. I think you can go up to a 150 size tire now.

i'm not going to run a wider tyre this season, i just want to ride her. I have a gsxr front end and a pair of virago hubs that i will splice into a fat pai of rims but those are my winter plans, for now i just want to get done and get on the road

Things have really slowed up, life work and family just getting in the way. I finally got a bit of time in the shed. I binned the triumph guard and returned to the trailer guard, i cut it, welded the top section of the stays in place and fabbed the begginnings of my tail light, i'm planning on getting a lens from a vw golf high spoiler brake light and trimming it to fit. any way, here are a couple of pics of where i am at the moment

its been ages since i posted on this and not a masive ammount of progress, life keeps getting in the way.

    done so far :-

the tail light and fender are finished, the ammo box with the plate mount is done, the front fender is done ans the under seat cover is done, all mt switches are mounted and it is ready to wire.

    still to do:-

Replace tank (the damage from the crash was worse than it looked)
    fabricate exaust
    wire
    ride into the ground

Bit of an update, i sourced a tank that fits fairly well wil need some mods to the mounts but its looking ok so far. The frame is now complete and all my brackets welded on, the switch gear is in place and ready to go. lots of things have been crossed of the list on the wall so we must be getting close. Oh and I have finished fabrication on the pipes jst waiting till we get there before i mount them (they are a pain in the arse so i only want to mount them once.
