Jump the pilot jets up to 41s from the stock 40s. These bikes react very well to that change and its the stock jet for everywhere but the USA. You really need to get those caps off and reset the idle mixture screws. You will be amazed at how smooth it will idle after you clean adjust and sync it.

My front left fork is leaking a lot of oil. can I just pull the seal out and replace it or do I need to take it all apart. also what's the best engine oil to use. it clunks a little when shifting fast.

here's a fork seal replacement link: get your socket extensions handy, you'll have to remove the for seal from the bike unfortunately.

    fork seal replacement

As far as motor oil is concerned, people reccoment Rotella-T or Castrol 20w-50. I'm currently running Rotella-T but plan to switch back to 20w-50 when it gets warmer out.

Properly adjust the clutch; it's probably dragging slightly.

Well I guess the plugs were'nt in the carbs, the pilot screws were all different from one another so I put them all at 21/2 turns out I drove it once. looked better ran about the same. so I then bumped it a quarter of a turn more out. let it just idle and view look much better but not quite brown yet.

"If the Insulator show signs of Hairline Fractures or Deterioration, ... the "Burn" will reach temperatures that exceed what Air Cooling is capable of handling and liquify the aluminum of the Piston Crown"

How about an water cooled bike? Struggling to get my maxim x to run "rich enough".

Colortune says 5 turn out OK, but still plugs are pretty white. Carbs cleaned and synced, valves Ok. No air leaks found...

I don't have any hair line fractures or any thing. I think I need new throttle shaft seals. looks like it leaks around them. but every time I take the boots off they have some gas residue on them. kind of wet. floats are set good. it doesn't leak out. no gas in oil or air box what does that mean.

i got the pilot screws set about 3.5 or 4 turns out cant remember which. plugs still running slightly lean except number three piston. which is making me think it has to be the throttle shaft seals. how far do you really need to adjust the screw to get a noticable difference. bike still pretty much runs the same. everytime i adjust it, cant really tell a difference. but it does have a more crisp throttle at idle. 5th gear seems like it doesnt have as much juice but it was pretty windy today so who knows.

I made a manometer today and tried it out. how do you actually use it. I can get 3 and 4 synced and 1 and 2 synced together. But when I do 3 and 4 to get it perfect it makes my idle go higher and I can't set it any lower. When I start the bike its right at 1100 once warmed up it goes to 1500. why can't I set it lower.
