You really do need to add more info for your ride, but if it is an 82 XJ750 Maxim, it has a "computer" in the stock gauge cluster. Swapping of any gauges or headlight other than stock on that specific bike will require rewiring. For instance, the headlight plug comes out of the gauge cluster instead of the wiring harness. That will have to be cut and spliced for sure. And what ever speedo/tach you go with, you will need to make sure the speedo have the same ratio as stock. Do a forum search, there are a lot of posts about swapping gauges and lights.

    Check this out:

    http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic ... art=0.html

I followed the instructions on this thread and it was a really easy swap. I used the stock headlight from an '83 XJ1100 and it bolted right into the ears from my stock square headlight. The only wiring issue I have (that I still haven't figured out) is that I have no brake light for the rear brake. It's not a huge deal since I always use both brakes, but I'd like to get it figured out eventually. Here's my thread:

I've also ditched the turn signals and relocated the ignitiion switch to the frame, which really cleans things up. That switch sticks out like a sore thumb after you ditch the atari guage cluster. You can bolt it to the existing frame holes with not mods & only took me about 10-15 minutes.

I'll add pics soon but I found the idea here:

    Good luck buddy!
