After 2 far rides (1,000klm in 24 hours) Pumba ended up at a Bikini wash in aid of the state spinal research unit (MAD or Make A Difference).

Awesome day and the girls had fun. Pumba was probably the oldest bike there.

Thinking about it, this would have been Pumbas first encounter with a female.

At the end of the month Pumba will have a rest from the road, and get new paint and the new engine fitted.

Proof of progress! (and new camera)

Nice hanging and priming (I guess). What color are you going for?

Finally had a chance to run up the old engine so I have a base to compare the 820 engine and the following mods.

Bog standard XJ750, Mac 4 into 1 exhaust, fresh plugs, clean air filter. (engine tired and uses oil)

not too bad for a tired engine bloke ?

what are you aiming for with the big bore kit?

How will the bottom end react to more power?

are you doing anything to the bottom end to beef it up?

    Cheers

Bottom end should be fine, as it is pretty much the same as a 900 to start with. And power probably wont exceed 20% over stock. I do however expect more midrange and less fuel usage.

I am more than happy with the base color, fingers crossed the second contrasting color looks as good.

My kids love this bike solely on the fact you used those happy face dudes for light covers :). Looks great!

Ditto.. really like th colour and your lights. You mentioned somewhere about going for a long ride later ( not just a farride )..any plans for some type of fairing or not going to bother?

Never thought about it, I wonder if it has been done before?

It would be cool to be the very first to use 'awesomeface' as a light cover.

I have been looking at the flyscreens that are an off the shelf fit to the dominator lights, and my try one.

The best thing about custom bikes is the ability to reverse direction if needed when coming forward.

    :D.

I should have guessed it was called awesomeface... All you need is a bit of BBQ paint for your headers and you'll be all set!

Its been 2 months without an update, so I am hoping for a decent update for Pumbas 3rd birthday in 2 weeks (3 years as a project, 2 on the road).

Until then, a winter in Perth pic:

Sorry if I've missed it but curious about your light set up have you upgraded the charging system or are you running LEDS?
Be able to see real well with those lights I imagine, even blind skippy's still hop straight towards you though I bet.

Darkfibre, I see that you don't have your efi on the bike. How is the project progressing? I'm doing research on efi for my fj900 engine buildup. My plan is race cam, valves, springs. Ported & polished. Increasing it to 1000cc, & efi. How far out are you from installation?

EFI is for the new engine that is way overdue to be finished, I have to have the new engine finished and run in before the next farride (October).

It probably wont be finished until Christmas, but it may get a bench run on the old engine.

Winter + new job + study seems to mean I get nothing achieved.

On the bright side, I have the fuel pump and wideband sensor, so i'm not waiting for parts.

I decided to go for the efi. I've seen the GSXR600 throttle body being used a few times. They seem to fit into the rubber intake runners? There also is a few microsquirt harness kits on ebay that i saw. I was wondering if you could give a list of parts for a install? Is it important to get the wiring harness for the GSXR 600? I have a somewhat idea for the parts and you seem to have a good insight on this and I just wanted to hear your imput? Also, if you had any recommendations on anything else like a different throttle body, etc? I'm going to be using it on a XJ900 engine.

Hi, a quick question. I see you removed the mufflers on your bike. I too have just down pipes.. Did you put baffles in the pipe to keep back pressure. I am not able to speed up over 50mph. Do you think the exhaust is my issue? Cheers.

The acorn nuts are stainless and will polish up nicely. If you have a buffer (looks like a bench grinder) they will look like chrome.

Oil and running in is serious business, this is a third of third of the original purchase price in the picture.

How does the lift bracket connect to the motor? Its just what I need to pull my engine so I can clean her up! Could you post a few pics of it?

Current plans are to clock up at least 1,200 klm in the next 6 weeks, then do a farride on October 20 (that will total 1,600klms plus for the weekend).

After that will be a dyno run to see the numbers before the EFI goes on.

During that time I intend to get the EFI running and the basic settings done on the old engine that was just removed.

Now its spring we should have plenty of updates coming.

Bracket lifts by bolting onto the M8 head to barrel studs. It was a quick throw together made out of some old shelf brackets I had made, it certainly could be improved upon.

Great engine bracket, thanks for the measurments. You are going to beat me done. It is coming into fall here, so might be awhile on my project. What does tube measure? Can't wait to see your dyno numbers.

Yesterday was a sunny spring day, so I managed to get 300ks onto the new engine in the afternoon.

I like this shot, bugs on the lights and a horizon reflection on the tank.

I just bought the microsquirt V3 & a '03 GSXR 600 throttle body w/ a 420a coil. Should all come in the mail in a week or so.

What is the pilot hole diameter on the Trigger wheel? I found a site that sells them in the UK. There is a 3" trigger with a 5mm pilot hole. Do I need to bore a larger whole? I'm wondering if there is a USA site that sells them? Did you have to mod anything else to mount the trigger wheel?

From memory the centre hole was a fraction under 25mm. I chose that size after working out how much I could machine the original factory trigger wheel and get the spacing that I wanted so I could keep the factory sensors unmodified.
