I'm moving the pegs on my Seca rearwards a bit, enough that it makes more sense to have the shifter directly on the splined shaft rather than linkage activated.

Seems like those levers come in a bajilion varieties and you can't just buy a generic one. The XJ650's run this style of shifter and have the same spline (or should- the service manual shows the same internals for both bikes) so I figured I'd get one of those and modify the arm if it bumped against something.

However, I'm having a hard time finding a source on one. Anybody know a place that sells em, preferably in steel and for under $30?

How do I get that catalog? Following the link at the top of the page that says "click here for catalog" only takes me to a forum.

It's often out of date, though. Best to just send chacal a PM.

Seriously? Its a big text dump in a forum? Yikes. Has the dude never heard of a database driven website? I'm almost willing to set up a magento or drupal site for him to avoid pulling my hair reading that thing.

Just PM or email him what you want and he sends back the options he has. I rarely read the catalog.

Sebweirs - - If you look at your side cover, there's a nub 2 1/2 inches back from your shifter shaft. Thats where the shaft comes out on a Maxim.

You buy a shifter off E-Bay from just about ANY Yamaha of the era and the splines will be correct. You pay $10.00 or so. You mount it pointing backwards and it will shift normally. (1 down, 4 up)

You'll have to get clever to match the brake side.

    TIMEtoRIDE -

Ah, cool. Yep, that's ecactly what I was planning to do. The brake lever I'm just gonna chop and weld, then move the back end connection to preserve the same basic toe-movement to brake-application ratio.

Come to think, if I'm planning to chop the brake lever I have, I might as well chop the shifter I have as well. If I ever restore it to shock, I'd have to buy both, but that's not much worse than shopping for just the brake lever.
