Hello everyone. I have recently come across a new long term project while looking for a bigger bike. I had asked about it here on the forum and received lots of help differentiating between the different models. Well, while looking for at this 750, I read DF's thread about his 750 build; which he named "pumba" :) http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=2 ... rt=45.html

I saw him do the Yamaha R1 brake upgrade and loved the idea so much that I want to do the same since the brakes currently on this bike I just picked up are pretty much locked up and need a complete overhaul. I already purchased a good caliper/MC set up, and in a separate auction, the brake disks for the conversion.

One big hiccup though, I did not realize that he swapped to the aus police 750 rims! Oh no... Now I see that I'll need different rims for this upgrade. Of course, like an idiot, I researched these parts and already bought stuff while I missed a HUGE minor detail...

It kinda sucks, although I'm not totally bummed. I just gotta find what rims I can use. And I have been searching for several hours online the last 3 days and I can't get a straight answer anywhere... Now we finally get to my:

QUESTION: What rims will fit my 1982 xj750 Seca?

I don't have access to buy the aus police 750 rims like DF did. What I can find for purchase is the following rims:

    http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/mcy/3514541259.html
    http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/mcy/3504544878.html (the 650 turbo)
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/120965191945?ss ... 1423.l2649

I really like the XJ 900 rims the best but I worry about the following items:

    - It "looks" like the R1 disks will bolt to the front rims like they did in DF's build, but it may not...
    - will the axle diameter be the same?
    - If I change my front rim I want my rear to match. Will the rear rim axle diameter be the same? Will the rear drive gear ratio be the same?

I already read http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=27544.html and it's super helpful and informative but so many words get confusing after a while. I'm def a very visual person, I need pictures with explanations or I'm just not to sure.

I mean, I could just buy a whole bunch of rims but that would be time and $ wasting. Anyone know for sure??

Wow, I dont know why I wasn't able to find this! Thanks a bunch!

So according to that, the 550-650-750-900 all used a 17mm rear axle and 15mm front axle.

Smaller for the 400 and larger for the 1100.

    oops, just got your message.

My upgrade followed the footsteps of another member on here, OOTFAB.

Both the caliper mounts and wheels are different.

From my research the R1/6 discs will fit the Aust Police Special, the XJ750D (injected) and the XJ750 turbo wheels and forks.

That is not to say you can't engineer as solution that has not been done yet.

No worries, thanks for getting back to me :). I searched for OOTFAB on here and it says the user does not exist. I did however google "OOTFAB brakes" and it returned your other posts showing pumba's set up and OOTFAB's ebay store. He has 0 items for sale so I sent him a message. I thought you made the adaptors, it would make it a lot easier if the adaptors could just be purchased.

Did you mean the xj650 turbo? (thought 650 was the only turbo's made) And why do you mention the turbo wheel and fork together? are you saying that if I use them, I have to use the turbo fork with the turbo wheels?

Okay, so... I found out some more crutial info. OOTFAB is now known by a different name, that's why I couldn't find him. I found something he was talking about back in 2006: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=816.html

Looks like from his profile that he's still OOTFAB on ebay but his name is different on this forum now... Also, his website doesn't work and his pictures are gone. Guess he used to make YICS tools and spin on oil filter adaptors.

He himself used the xj900 wheels front and rear on his XJ650 turbo. So that gives me the warm fuzzy required before I purchase them. At least I know they will physically fit, even if I have to do some fab to make the brakes mount up front and rear. Possibly even get new tires as the front may not fit under the fender, but I was going to get new tires anyway so...

Edit: Just purchased 83 XJ900 rims, front and rear for 125.99 shipped :)

Welcome to the modification learning process.

And yep, I meant 650 turbo. Caliper mount points are different on different forks.
