Hi, Just finished 2 year project getting my baby back up and running. Purchased brand new in 1983, In 1985 moved to another state stored bike indoors at my Dad's shop. Had child and got busy with life, no time for bike. So 2 years ago decided before I got to old would get running. Quite a project even though bike in very good shape. Rebuilt calipers, new shock seales and fluid, took front and rear wheels apart and repacked bearings. Tank had little rust so had cleaned and sealed with non ethanol effected sealer (Done professionally), rebuilt fuel petcock and new gasket for tank fuel gage. New bowl gaskets and had carbs cleaned and re-tuned. Have approx 23,000 miles on all original except for above mentioned. Other than some normal wear and tear and few scratches bike looks real pretty, (Red and Black) The only flaw is the right rear exhaust canister took some chrome off on a slide 28 years ago. Fortunately no damage other than pride and cosmetics.
If anyone knows where to get right rear canister would be greatly appreciated, I've searched almost everywhere unable to find.
So if anyone would be interested in purchase please post on site to me.
Not interested in giving away, not looking to make a killing but only interested if reasonable offer.
If no one interested I still love her!

Keith, don't listen to that man behind the curtain. (Unless he's just offering you a muffler.)

Fix it, recommission it and ride it. You won't be sorry. (There's no such thing as "too old.")

    Geez, Fitz....THANKS a LOT. I'll get you back for that someday........LOL :)

These mufflers are not easy to get ......I'm looking for a right one as well--I have a left one that I was able to get last year--it's NOS, never been installed. I HOPE, but dont expect, to find a matching right one sometime.

In the meantime, there is an alternative......but I'm not going to mention it here, cuz I don't want Fitzy to know.............

(psssst, listen very carefully--I'm only gonna whisper this once........you can actually use the mufflers from the 84 xj750rl. They are almost a perfect match. The length is within an inch, and the sections are within half an inch or so. A little finagling and possibly a small homemade bracket will do the job. Once on the bike, NO ONE will be able to tell unless they can recognize BOTH mufflers to be able to tell that the barely shorter ones are on the bike instead. If you want to see a comparison, let me know. I have a set of the 750rl mufflers.......but don't tell Fitzy. He made a smarty remark about me being behind a curtain.....)

    Oh, Hi Fitz............:)

Thats to funny! Yeah been a tough rode trying to find. Have been trying to keep original but as you know tough. Only option besides a custom one for $$$$ and replacing with JCWhitney crapola or new 4 into one which means rejet and still $$$$.
Let me know if you have any luck.

Took 4 yrs. to find the the right exhaust, but well worth the wait. I tried the mac 4 into 2 never could get the jetting right. stock is way better. Power throughout the rev range. Just keep checking Ebay and Craig's list!

Thanks ! For responding. Really appreciate the effort. Great to find good hearted fellow riders. Not sure exactly what it is about the XJ900 but it's an odd bike with just the rite amount of certain things. Enough to have fun on a twisty road but relaxed like you don't have to think about, it's automatic and comfortable. Just relaxed and fun. But if the devil is in you can crank the RPM'S and get the juice going it's fun enough without the insanity.
    Thanks for the link!
    I'll keep trying.
    Best
    Keith
