go easy when removing the tape, the blue stuff seems to be extra sticky and sometimes likes to take the edge of the paint with it. at least it seemed to in my house

Already had this done once...looked real good until brake fluid dripped in it....so I decided to strip it again & start over........

Ah....the trials & tribulations of resurrection & restoration on my 30 yr old bike......I know this bike like the back of my hand since I have had it from my heydays in '80s in Colorado....

Is there color under the tape? or bare alum? IMHO paint the enitire vlve cover and take a nice pice of 2by4 with fine sand paper then go over the raised lettering and lines would have save alot of time and you wont have the issue of peeling off the paint when you go to remove the tape.Ya can sand them to a real nice shine

you are right....I could have painted the whole manifold & then just sanded the raised aluminum.......but my approach was the same way as last time & it worked well......if it doesn't....I will try your way.....thanks.....

On mine I used Hi-gloss around the 'YICS' and raised ribs then use flat over the remainder. To tell you the truth, once installed on the head I need to look really closely to see the difference.

Time wise .... either flat or gloss will work just fine. Save some time and don't fuss with the two tone look.

if you use flat and get polish on it, it looks like crap and it's hard to get off

When I bought the bike 30 years ago.... if I remember correctly the valve cover was a flat black & shiny raised aluminum....... I went with flat as the mid section of the motor is flat as well.....

Painted the Valve Cover flat black with Engine Enamel...

Painted the Calipers Flat Black.....with Engine Enamel...added aftermarket Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines from Chacal.......still have my 30 yr old rubber hose lines as well as spares.....lol

Painted the Master Cylinder Flat Black...with Engine Enamel
I know....time to replace the acrylic window....but when it is filled with fluid... I can see the level just fine.....it is all in the details I know.....

Has anyone painted the heads of the valve cover bolts? Or sanded them down? Do they polish being they are not aluminum? I'm also going to shoot high gloss on my VC and sand down the ribs. Just didn't t know what to do with the bolt heads. Do you suggest filling up the Allen head recessed fitting with something to keep paint out of the area?

Sektorgaz- You cant use plastidip on the valve cover. Its rubber. Its only for exterior parts, like gauges, or over any kind of body paint. cool stuff though. You can paint the hood of your car and if you don like it, peal it off no problem.

Joeperezis- You can get the bolts to shine up, but if there not aluminum or SS, they might rust. You can paint the bolts, I wouldn't be too worried about getting paint inside the allens if its a light coat. the inside will probably chip away, anyways when you install them.

Nice looking valve covers guys! In keeping with the black and gold theme of my bike, I painted mine to match.
