How can you tell by looking at an engine if it has YICS? I mean aside from the obvious "YICS" markings on the side plate. (My side plates sure don't look like they belonged to this engine model.)

YICS engines have a bolt at the rear of the head, below the head gasket. You can also see the YICS passages cast into the back of the head.

Except the bolt you have labeled "oil pressure plug" isn't.

I'm pretty sure that's the retainer bolt for the bottom cam chain guide mount.

"YICS" is also cast into the valve cover. If the valve cover just says "Yamaha" it's not a YICS motor. (The valve covers aren't interchangeable.)

That pic was borrowed from the XS11 forum, and is of an XJ1100. The XS11 uses that hole for the oil pressure sending unit. That plug (and the oil pipe next to it) does not exist on the XJ650/750.

That is real perty cam cover for sure!! Hope my NON YICS :( cover turns out as well.

For some reason it had a "YICS" engine side cover on it. :? I suspect crash repair.

The YICS cover didn't fit quite right BTW.
