    Hi All

Started the task of rebuilding my ebay basket case. Step 1 bolt together what I've got to see what I'm missing.. Already discovered that the swing arm internal bits were gone so new bushes and second-hand sleeve now in place.

Then I turned my attention to the front. Slid the forks on pondered about the headlight mount and looked at the instrument cluster. Hmm where doesthis piece go and what bolts onto it.

Tried looking at the exploded diags in CMSNL but not shown. Clymer is also deficient here..

    Any ideas ?

PS The aluminium mesh half-covered in epoxy is where I repaired it..

Your link goes to your google drive but not one specific file so not sure which picture you are referring to.

Don't think so. the two holes by the repair line up with the holes on the steel instrument mounting bracket - it was in on eof the boxes of bits but I guess there's no absolute guarantee it's off the XJ !

@ BF - I'll try and psot teh picture elswhere too. I don't know why it's so tricky for me at least to do this - should be what teh internet is made for !

Or fix the link so I can see the pic and likely answer the question. It is a 550 after all.

    Got the pic.

I don't think it's from an XJ550, unless the Euro-spec bikes had a vastly different instrument cluster.

Have a look through this article; wherein I tear a 550R cluster down starting with removing it from the bike. http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14948.html

The part you have does look like an "inner bracket" for somebody's instrument cluster; but it doesn't have any resemblance to any of the pieces I'm familiar with. But the instrument "face holes" are the wrong shape and it doesn't have that "Yamaha family resemblance."

Thanks. I'm sure you're right. The begger must hav efound its way into the boxes over the past 15 + years it's been laid up - same way that a load of parts have wandered off !

Sorry to waste your time- it was my bad that I spent sometime gluing it back up last night !!

    Cheers
