I'm just curious if anyone has a recipe to clean old tarnished jets up really nice?
There was some scale on them. But vinegar, and baking soda got most of it. I let them soak in it a few hours.
At this point I could run them as is.

But to have them look brass again would just be a piece of mind.
Any advice, or should I just say screw it?

If they are corroded bad just replace them. They don't have to be bright and shiny to work.
If regular carb cleaner soak does not clean them its time for new. They are not very expensive.

Actually they kinda are $50 a set isn't that cheap. I'm mostly trying to save my 43 pilots. Might have to flip the bucks on new mains.

Your are buying them in the wrong place. Amazon has a pack of 4 jets for less than 12$ shipped. Main or pilot.

Berrymans Chem Dip is wonderfull stuff. Just don't put rubber parts in it.

The old addage chrome won't get ya home. As long as jets orfice is clear good to go. If you insist take some metal polish and a dremel tool with a polishing pad get them nice and shiny put them back in .. and you will never see them again ... but only you will know what they look like lol

I'll look into those on Amazon.
I was gonna buy them here, and no offense to the big guy on here. But that price is steep.
As for the shiny stuff, "Chrome won't get ya home" is my favorite saying. Along with, "at least you look good on the road side".. lol

If the stock jets are clean I would not replace them. At least you know they are perfectly made. I'm not sure I trust all the after market products out there.

I'm actually just looking to go up a couple of main sizes.
This bike has aftermarket air filter pods, and the baffles cut out of the exhaust. It had "dial a jets" on it when I bought it. But they were setup wrong, and I would rather just jet it properly.

Dail a jets are awesome....when a fella needs to compensate for altitude often.

They were old as dirt, and the cheap plastic ones from the 90's. Plus it only had 3, and the #1 carb was left out. (Not sure why it was left to burn lean?)
But the compression on that cylinder was good.
    Dial a jets do work!
I used to go sledding in the mountains a lot. Some of the guys I rode with ran them. I just packed a jet kit.. lol

Just an FYI, I'm running 122 main jets and 42 pilot jets on my xj750j. I have 4 into 1 Mac exhaust and PO had drilled the air box. Stock paper filter, and approximately 4000 feet altitude. My bike runs great with this setup

I got them pretty clean today with an old toothbrush, and arm&hammer toothpaste. It worked like a hot damn!
I cleaned my carbs really good tonight.

I'm running pod filters, and 4 into 2 (12" inch) straight pipes.
I ordered a jet kit on ebay tonight, gonna try 125 mains, and 42 pilots.
I'm at 2200ft in my area, I think that should do it?

How did you get the toothbrush into the jet? More importantly how did you get the toothpaste out?
The outside being shiny dosen't matter one bit; it's the hole that matters.

I didn't use that much.. The jets were pretty clean to start with. I just wanted to get the tarnish off.. But I boiled them after I was done to get any leftover toothpaste.

I'm about a block from the border and have family just across in Point Roberts and not a problem for me.
I'm guessing your not close enough to just rip down and get a post box

I live in Grande Prairie, it's a bit far to just rip to Coutts for jets.
