All right 90 miles put on her. Just did an oil change and when I inspected the magnetic oil plug nothing on it :)
Gazed at the oil pan containing the old oil and no sign of glittering metal pieces-Even Better.
In retrospect the first oil change I my own opinion should be done with in 200 hundred miles. To remove all those small particles caused by the break in. Then again at 500 hundred just to make sure you got everything out of the engine.
Here is a picture of the saddle bags I am thinking about buying for 75.00 any thoughts good bad ?

Hauled a 750 motor into my basement for some TLC. God damn those things are heavy. I'm too old for that stuff, and require medicinal beer to cover up the really sore back. One more to go downstairs tomorrow >.<

    I really wish I had a garage.

Maybe some block and tackle will work for you, like the ones they use for sailing ships. The more wheels the less physical force required ?
Or a young kid around the neighborhood for an easy 20 bucks.

Of course you can still have the medicinal beer measure.:)

I was thinking of some kind of block and tackle setup, as I need to bring another motor down there once I get it out of the frame, and I'll need to bring the first back up once it's had it's TLC. However, I'm in a rental townhouse with an unfinished basement, I've no idea how I would set something like that up (no straight drop down available, just an extremely rickety 2x12 staircase).

Heh... Turns out a 300 pound guy carrying a full motor is putting what may be too much load on 2x12's. There were some really alarming noises carrying it down. Maybe rig up some kind of sled. Hmm.

sled sounds like a great idea. Plywood and a good rope should do the trick.

Reinstalled forks today after receiving dust seals. Thought I was just missing a pinch bolt on the triple tree bracket and had a replacement. Found out the original was sheared off inside. Tried an extractor without success. Now trying to soak in alum to dissolve it out. Arrgh. Another delay in getting things put back together.

Sorry Andy . . . I get up early, grab a coffee surf here a bit and then out the door for work. Then jump back on during breaks and lunch.

There is a thread for doing a 'dry set' of float levels ( http://xjbikes.com/forums/threads/setting-hsc32-float-heights-dry.9998/ )
First make sure your floats are in the correct orientation - then the dry set will get you close to all 4 being the same.

You must verify with a wet check.

That's so sexy. Thanks for confirming for me - my Seca frame is currently naked and I've been trying g to decide whether to paint it something bright, or black, and this is definitely a huge +1 for painting it bright. Damn, that's sexy. Nice ride!

Thanks winter, but it is actually a maxim just with a seca tank. I wanted orange on it but not too much. I figured the frame would be good. I love it and am glad others like it too. I will be creating a build thread under the modifications soon so everyone can see the process and I can put into writing what I have done. Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Cliffs very nice. I'm slowly doing everything black, engine, pipes and all. I love that orange!

A week ago I did fuel lines, carb cleaned, fork oil replacement, lubed all cables, axle shaft, cleaned air box, installed new intake boots, new ujoint boot for shaft, greased levers and throttle plus choke, oil change, mid drive oil change , timing chain adjust and clutch adjustment.

Yesterday I did yics install, synched, colortuned!

Not yet dowski, his mom is still hesitant about letting him handle tools for very long. But he does try to use them on his toys when he grabs them. Thanks Justin, I just prefer the blackout look over all the chrome.

I'm with you here. I actually prefer raw aluminum to a sea of chrome, though I'm a black+accent guy myself overall.

IMHO, chrome/polished aluminum is fine as an accent, but it's a "less is more" sort of thing.

thought my wife had misplaced the other set of front brake pads when I realized that I only ordered one set LOL. Ordered another set looks like Monday or Tuesday for the front brake replacement.

On another note I was at school when I was just looking at this chopper and realized that there drive belt was split in two. So I took a pick of what you don't want to happen or ride around on.
Not trying to offend anyone just thought this was very odd. Either they have no money or this just happened to them

    >are the floats -side down

    NO, the are oriented correctly

    >Mixture screws -

turn them all the way in til they softly seat. Then turn each one back out 2.5 turns. That is your baseline starting point to fine-tune them.

I expect to turn the two 1100's into one complete bike. I"ll probably just part out the SecaII. It's turned into a nightmare just to get.......first, the guy thatI bought it from didn't disclose the SALVAGE status of the title til after it was loaded and on the way...."Oh, Yeah, by the way--I forgot to tell you-----" after having assured me several times before, that it was a clear title. Grrr. Then a good frame that I bought ('title is good') turns out that the auction company stamped it in the buyer's spot......so another hassle. I may just give up on this one...... And part it.

Had a great Saturday ride around part of Southern Ontario. BTW - On my XJ750 I'm consistently getting 50mpg and I ride pretty hard.
Now that we are riding more distance and I'm getting on highways more, I find the bike cruises well at 100-110 kmh (4000rpm at 100kmh) but over that, too much engine noise/vibration. I've ordered new (larger) grips to reduce transmitted vibration to my hands. Any other experience or suggestions ? The bike runs well and I don't think there's any "abnormal" vibration, just the high rpm. I've got new tires and original grips.
I changed to clubman bars so that may be transmitting more vibration. Any polymer bar isolators out there ?
A 6th gear would be perfect.
Anyone every change gearing on the shaft drive ? 1st would end up a little high for starting off, but I could live with that.

Ah, the classic "Sure, the title is clear" line =/

Been down that road more than once.

Sadly, here in Alberta, you can't register a vehicle in your name until AFTER you ensure it. There is no title (just VIN status)... So if you're not insuring it immediately (say, because it's a project) you remain blissfully unaware of such things until it's way too late. Good times.
