    Hey everyone,
Recently out for a ride on my 81 xj750, i was cruising along, and instantly all electronics shut off, i pulled over and upon further inspection with the key in on position, no electronics on the bike work, i just installed a brand new starter relay, but it could still be faulty, checked all connections at headlight bucket and towards the rear and all are good. Any suggestions on where to search next or how to test the relay???

    Welcome to the group,
Have you cleaned and tightened all ground connections?
What prompted the starter relay change, was there previous electrical issues?

All contacts are good, fuses are good. Starter relay was getting stuck on, and continuously running the starter. I only know of one ground, right too the motor off of the battery.

Any help is greatly appreciated, as my bike is sitting in a random driveway until fixed.

this would be a seca 750?
grounds at ignition coils ,ground to frame from motor.

how is your oil level low oil can trigger the solinoid.

check the connector from solinoid/battery to main. fuse red wire single connector.
do you have 12 volts at the main fuse?

Well your bike is NOT in my random driveway . . . where in Wisconsin are you?

If the old starter relay was getting stuck on it may have damaged the battery, get a multi meter on it and see what voltage you have.

There are a couple ways you can test them, most simple is tapping it with the handle of a screwdriver/mallet while trying to start the bike, it may just be stuck. Better way would be remove it from the bike and check the coil with a multimeter, if the coil is good then connect only the power to it, and while you try to start the bike check the other contacts with a meter to make sure they are closing

Now we can ge back to this.
Does it still have the original fusebox?

    Here is why I ask.

Your Fuse Box -- A Ticking Bomb??? By: Rick Massey

You have multiple electrical issues, and the fusebox is one of the few parts that they all have in common.
The fuses can be good, but the fusebox (specifically the fuse clips) still be at fault.
