Is it just me or are the provided o-ring seals provided by FRAM (ch6003) bad? I'm talking about the larger o-ring seal that comes folded in the box. The one that goes around the filter case.

The first time I did it, I had a leak around the filter case that no matter how tight I tightened it, kept leaking. Like oil very slowly leaks out during riding causing small drips when the bike is parked.

Then I bought an OEM Yamaha o-ring and it solved the problem.

Next I changed it again with a new FRAM filter and it's been leaking for 6 months.

Is there something I'm missing about the seals? Am I supposed to leave it soaked in oil to "moisten" it? On my notes, I noted that the oem oil seal is slightly thicker.

Your experience is the same as mine. Throw the Fram o-ring in the trash.

Used the CH6003 for many years, smear a little oil on it, determine which side is going to lay best in the groove (cause like you said they kinda fold it in the box), button things up and no leak problems.

I've been using a Napa gold (wix) filter simply because it's readily available to me and I've had no problems with leaks or anything

I bought a Yamaha OEM large O-ring oil seal (93210-87723) and that solved my leak problem. Unfortunately, the FRAM O-ring (from filter CH6003) , twice i tried, doesn't work for me.

I have never had a problem with the frame o-ring, it can be a real pain to get to lay flat after it's been smashed into the box, but it always seems to seal well.
    Just my experience.

I've never had an issue with Wix brand filter rubber gaskets.

Does the spin on filter provide the same cooling as the finned aluminum cover? I would think that has the "cool factor". ;) Len's oil cooler kit really ups the cool factor!

    Cooling factor?
