Charging issue

    I'm trying to figure out why my xj550 has starting issues. It doesn't want to turn over easy. I checked the voltage on the battery and it was good at around 12 volts but after getting the bike started and checked it again while running it was still at 12 volts. Any idea what this could be. Thanks.

    sounds like you need new brushes they are located under the alternator cover if less than 11mm long the brushes will need to be replaced .
    clean copper rings with a hard eraser. then clean with electric spray
