Doing a rebuild with the manual but just can't figure out how to pick the right color bearing for which crank bearing. Any help would be very much appreciated

You will also want to get a copy of the Factory Service Manual.

Yes thanks. That's actually what I have. I bought it 27yrs ago when I first bought the bike.

After I posted I had more time to scroll and found the thread you quoted. My spare practice case did not have any markings on either 1/2 after splitting it. Hoping that's not the case when I split my rebuild case. Thanks for the help!

Let me do some more looking. It may be that the 1100 was marked differently. It's also possible that your practice case was a replacement. Does the engine number look like its han-stamped?

No its the original case from this bike. Just doing a preliminary inspection on the motor being done , I can't yet see anything scratched anywhere on it either. The case is still together as Im waiting on my clutch tool to arrive before going further but the head and cylinder block is off so I can see into the case fairly well. Had a valve drop at idle and am concerned about the bearings being scored. Still have about a week of research to do before the tool arrives for me to proceed so any help in the meantime is greatly appreciated.

I've got a PDF of the XJ1100 service manual if you need a copy but looking at the link k-moe posted it could be the same thing.
Looking at the section regarding the crankshaft bearings it looks to me that the XJ1100 didn't have any numbers etched onto the cases but stamped onto the crankshaft and inside the cases at the side of the bearing housing.
I could be wrong but hopefully not.

A PDF would be great! I don't see any stamped numbers anywhere i side or out of the cases unfortunately.
