Ok so now i have the electrics sorted. Front forks Rebuilt. Front and rear brakes rebuilt with new stainles hoses But giving the bike one more quick check i noticed a spring hanging from the back of the right hand side rear passenger foot hanger and for the life of me i can't see where it's meant to go. It's not the brake pedal return spring and i am at a loss anybody have any ideas

What is right below the spring? Looks to be an exhaust that has a bracket with a hole in it. The obvious place to go?

that little bracket the spring is hooked on ,is where the brake pedal return spring should anchor, its on the back of the footrest hanger (right)
maybe you've got another spring ,anchored somewhere else, but thats where it should be anchored

For all those who said brake pedal return spring you get the gold prize everybody else thanks for taking the time and the advice. Spring on just had first ride surprisingly good for a 31 year old bike gearbox is very smooth only downside is it's a bit lumpy i suspect carbs so in a couple of weeks they shall be getting ultrasonicaly cleaned. Thank you all you have put a hugh smile on a late 40's man
