'86 yx600 Radian. Is it normal for the rpm's to continuously rise when the choke is pulled in?

When I have the choke engaged the rpms just keep climbing as if I was hitting the throttle. I'm sure my neighbors dont appreciate the warm up process.

Yes, as the engine warms up the mixture gets more explosive.. hence more rpm.

It's normal for it to climb all the way to 8000?

That I don't know but up to 5K would not surprise me at all.

yeh , my xj600 (same engine as yx radian) , i start it on 3/4 choke, then as soon as it starts (just about 5 secconds) i cut it down to half choke, otherwise the revs climb like you say, then i just keep fethering it in, till it ticks over nicely, the settings vary ,depending how warm it is outside

by the way does the radian have the choke on a knob attached to the carbs, or does it have a cable , handlebar operated one , i ask because you may be having a sticky cable on the choke, resulting in the high revs.

feather the choke. I would never let my bike freewheel to 8000 rpm.
