Long time lurker here. First post.
Picked this bike up a year a half ago and tore it down. Teaching myself new things as I went. Picked up a Seca tank and made some side covers for it from fiberglass.

Wow, that is sharp looking, can barely tell it was an XJ750 Maxim in it's "previous life". Nice work, and welcome to The Club.........

That's super clean! Did you mount a small battery under the seat? What sort of speedo did you use?

    Nice bike and clean.
Tell us more about the following.
    Mufflers you put on.
Velocity stack/filters on intake of carbs.
Re jetting the carbs? what did you move from and to and how did you go about it?

    Thank you!
I used a stock sized antigravity behind the side cowl and tucked most of the electronics there. I have an acewell speedo/tach IMG20240116133931.jpg IMG20231217180917.jpg

Thanks! I'm still figuring things out. Bike didn't run when I got it so didn't have much of a baseline. It has been running well still probably needs some fine tuning.

Velocity stacks are from Mikes XS. Mufflers were some cheap ones from Cafe racer garage.
For carbs they have 134 pilot jets I probably need to space the needles up or get shorter ones. I have not done too much digging into it yet it runs well and I'm just putting miles on it.

Great job!! Nice looking bike! Pulling off a radically modified Maxim that looks good is a tough job.

Thank you. Controls are off eBay probably Chinese. Clip ons are 7/8 woodcraft bars.

thats what i thought, my problem is i havent seen any of the Chinese ones that are big enough to operate twin discs, do you know the diameter of the master cylinder bore, most of the Chinese ones are only around 12mm, twin discs require around 14mm --5/8in.
if yours have the larger diameter i'd love to know the listing name or number,
if yours are the smaller diameter , do the front brakes feel a little "spongy"

Is that 134 "Main Fuel Jets" you mean? (stock 750 is 120 if I'm reading the wikidot page correctly)

#134 main fuel jets are quite large for that engine.........I would think that it would run rich as all get-out. For your configuration, a size #124 or #126 might be more suitable, with #42 or #43 pilot fuel jets.

Interesting. I'll pull the bowls off and verify what's in there.Going to pull the plugs as well to get a better idea. I have some 124 and 130 jets I can swap out to get where I need.
