THis may be here someplace, but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know if I can swap in the double gauge cluster (tach/speedo/idiot lighting) from the XS650 onto my 82 xj650 seca? They look identical, but obviously, looks can be deceiving.

My current cluster is looking horribly worn, and mikesxs has a nice replacement unit that would work perfect if I can be sure it'll fit.

Don't the XS Bike's run a mechanical tachometer?

I want to get rid of my instrument cluster; too.
I want a 120~140 mph speedo and a round tach.

I'm still looking for something I can afford!

Yes XS650 tach is mechanical. It would be best to use the round gauges from an XS1100 with the electrical tach.

wow...I feel silly..I thought the xj was a mechanical tach...I must not have looked close enough. Well, that's obviously not gonna work then.

however, that means I can go electric tach, which opens up a boatload more options.

Broccoli, you are running a mechanical tach on your Seca. The swap for an XS would be a drop in (with some possible connector doctoring, but I'm not up on the swap. Connectors look similar to my XJ650H).

alright...I don't feel so retarded now. I went out to take a peek at the cluster/connections, and that cable looked like..um...er...a cable, and not wires.

I'm also looking for a speedo that goes above 80mph...
Does anyone know which one to use for a 650 Maxim?

One from most any Yamaha from the same era will work such as the SR500 that goes to 120, the XS750 that goes to 140 or the XS1100 that goes to 160.

I was looking at your xs750 gauge cluster... it only goes to 85mph.
I would buy a new cluster but, I have to know what bike
has a speedo above the 80mph mark... something like 120mph.

mikesxs.com has a nice cluster that goes to 120. I think it's 115 plus shipping, not a bad deal. Uses the stock triple tree mounts to.

That cluster looks nice but, I spent my budget for this month. (Bought dynojet kit) You think it would fit on my maxim?

yeah, I have a 1980 xj650 Maxim. I guess my question is will the gauge cluster from a Seca fit on a Maxim?

mikesxs.com has a cluster that looks like it would be a tight fit if there is any major different between the two bikes.
