    Great to hear from you,
I'd love to show off the XJ, Have either of you been to Michaels in Chapel Hill? Every Sunday it's kind of a meeting place for all types of bikes, you can eat and check out the other bikes. I have seen some other XJ's in the area but don't know who they are.

No, I haven't been there before but it sounds like a place to explore. It will give me a reason / destination to ride and to get some eats and see some bikes while I take a break. Maybe we should meet there sometime so I can check out your bike. I found the address so I know how to get there.

This Sunday is fine or most other later part of Sundays also. I am pretty busy on Fridays and Saturdays for a while with work. I even have some weekdays free because I will be working weekends and Sunday mornings for a while with shutdown work. My schedule will be a bit crazy until I am done with this job I am involved with. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday afternoon and evenings I have off for the next 5 weeks until I'm done. I won't work this Monday as it is a holiday. I make alot of phone calls from home getting the weekend planned for the shutdown on Thursdays but it's just part of the day. Just see when your free and we'll take it from there.

I am up for meeting this Sunday at Michaels, I haven't been there in a while. People usually are there at 10 and leave around 12. It is prety easy to spens two hours looking at bikes, you'll see anything from custom choppers to old Indians and everything inbetween. I'm trying to get a few friends together to make the ride , maybe 4 of 5 . I hope to meet you there.

It's a green light for me also and I'll let the clutch out in plenty of time to get there by 10:00. Look for the shiny black cherry XJ. :D Good to here that some friends are hooking up with you in company.

Hey Mark...When I got home and started thinking about that meeting spot for bikes, came to realize that it's something special. It's cool that people get together and hang there. I can see how a thing like that can catch on and turn into something bigger than it already is. It's perfect in timing for an early Sunday cruise for breakfast, chat and looking at peoples bikes. I want to make that a semi-regular place for me to burn some leisure time, when I have it. Kind of an extension to this site except for listening to people who want to tell Harley stories. Enjoyed seeing your wife's XJ/Hoss bike/Top gun/needs to be my bike/let me know if you ever sell it/....bike. That Bultaco that you have sounds like something else I would enjoy seeing................and owning 8) Heck, just sell me all your bikes and get it over with. haha Let's hook up again some time when you fire up that XS!

Hi Steve,,, Sorry for the late post. Our Sunday ride was the only relaxation I had this weekend. It was great to meet you. For all the other readers out there, his XJ is BEAUTIFULL. It looks like it came off the showroom floor. We'll have to meet there again and I'll bring some pictures of the other toys in my garage . Maybe is a few weeks after your work settles down we can ride there again, maybe this time we can eat breakfast, I did not know they were closed that day. I was looking forward to thier breakfast platter.

Mark, bring the pics of your bikes for sure...I would enjoy seeing them. Get some shots of your chopper too..or...erm...some of the parts anyway. I might just start taking some pics of the old bikes there to post on this site. I need to get one of the Motoguzzi (wish the guy would shine it up a bit) and that insane Triumph ect....

Small world eh amitlu2000! I've seen some XJ's fly past me on the road but it's good to see one here and able to chat it up. Your real close to me and it would be fun to get together and maybe do a little riding. I might have a little jump on you with digging into this XJ stuff and Mark even more than me. How long have you had yours? I talked to him on the phone one day and he knows another guy with an XJ also. My bike is running good but I promised myself that I would do a valve spacing, sync and tune before I rode it again. It's super early right now and I am in the middle of cleaning my XL carbs (2 of them) and the first is soaking in the cleaning solution while I take a break. My goal is to finish this bike by the end of this weekend and then get back to my XJ. I've been digging in and learning this one as of late but my diligence and lack of sleep are paying off as the bike is very close to being up to date now with the maintenance. I should have my XJ done and ready to ride in about 3 weeks. I have to make time and get the shims ordered that I should have done weeks ago before I got busy with this other bike. Buying 2 vintage bikes in one summer is a lot to bite off but I'm a glutton for punishment sometimes when I get an itch for things that need scratching. I plan on riding this Honda most of the time so I can keep my XJ nice because it's very special to me. I was lucky to find it in the condition that it was in and minimizing the mileage a bit will help keep it that way. The only bike I want now is a Vmax and then maybe I can rest up a bit....still itching! Let's get together some time and glad to see you here! :D

I've actually just started riding. I've had the bike since about April, but just got rolling around the end of June. I hit the century mark this week, and then I put about 150 more miles on today heading down to Johnston county looking for a Civil War battlefield (didn't find it - stupid MapQuest!).

But yeah, man. It'd be awesome to meet up and tool around. The biggest problem I've faced so far is wanting to ride but not knowing where I should ride to, aside from the trip today.

Isn't it the truth about not having a destination to go to but wanting to ride. I enjoy the time out much better when I have a place to go to or a reason to ride other than just for the sake of riding I go out for a brief spell in the early evening, most days, and make a game of going down streets that I have never been down before. I see new things and learn where things are on my journey but never stray too far from home.

So your new to riding, I bet your getting quite a charge out of your new bike then. I just started back in 2005 from more than 20 years of not owning one. I hope your getting your bike together and things are going well with it so far during the prime of riding season. They can be a labor of love and part of the fun in owning one.

I got my XL back together this weekend and it is running great and starting easy. I really feel happy that I understand this bike much better after seeing how the carbs work by taking them down. I did it right and took my time along with doing the valve spacing, replaced all the hose and added in-line filters to the fuel line and breather hoses to the carbs. I cleaned out the air box real good and also flushed/reinstalled the over sized plastic tank that came with the bike. I just love plastic tanks! Heck, I'd go riding ASAP with you if I could take the Honda.

Hey man, I don't care what you ride, just so long as you're out there.

At this point, I've replaced the whole front end after an incident with a tree, and after fighting with the airbox to carb boots, I learned how to take the tank off by myself. I think my next trick is going to be resealing the forks and changing the oil. Oil changes aren't a big deal, I figure, but the fork seals are a bit of a headache, I hear. By Cycle Gear apparently has a tool you can use to redo the seals without taking the forks off, so that's a definite plus.

I think this weekend I'm going to try heading down to either Smithfield to check out the railroad museum, or maybe get a better map to look for the battle field again.

That's a cool idea about meandering around, looking for new roads. I did that about a week ago in Cary, and a guy on a big Yamaha rolled up to me and told me I was riding the bike he started on, which was pretty awesome. If you wanna meet up sometime this weekend, I don't think I have much going on Sunday much before 5:00.

I live a little east of Concord. I just got my 1982 XJ750 Maxim today. I was so hoping to find one, since I loved the one I rode for most of my 20's. I would love to get together sometime to ride one day after I get the bike running good.

    Sounds like fun
I've been wanting to go to Bass Pro shops, in Concord. That will be a good excuse to take a long ride. I might want to wait until it warms up some. I can handle 40 deg, but only for 15 or 20 miles.

I'm down I-40 a little ways in Castle Hayne (just north of Wilmington). Looks like there are a few riders from the eastern NC area. Maybe we should get together and form a club of some kind. Also, any one in the area into cafe racers? The Seca design is so close to a cafe to begin with, and since Cafe Racer is also a frame of mind and style of riding, I think most XJ owners kinda fit into it.
Visit Do The Ton if you think you might be interested in Cafe Racers. Its a great CR site.
For the NC riders, let's all get together sometime this spring or summer. Wilmington, Raleigh, Myrtle Beach, anywhere.

    Hey bluzglide.

I live down the coast a ways from you. I'm in Moncks Corner, SC (30 miles west of Charleston). Check the XJ map. I'm guessing that's about 190 or so miles from you.

I have a daughter living in Wilmington now. She wants me to head up there to see her, but I don't know when I'll be going yet.

Would like to meet some folks on the list.

Hey Guys. Yet another XJ rider here in Cary. Well not riding yet but just purchased an 82 maxim XJ1100. I haven;t rode a bike in awhile so I am getting my license and taking a BRC course at Johnston CC. Hope to be riding by the begging of May and think it would be cool to meet some other XJ riders.

    Hey Mark.

That’s cool. We will definitely have to get together. I should be all set up by the first week in May.

P.S. I am looking for tank emblems for my soon to be 82 Maxin. Got the new tank but am missing the left (from the seat) emblem. Was wondering if you would know of a source. I have a posting in the WTB section but no luck yet.

Also - anyone have a color tune and/or YICS tool? that could be Borrowed. I'm thinking of buying them (good tools to have). But a bit pricey for the amount of use they will get...

    Hi Bill
I have a YICS tool and the gages to sync the carbs. You can make the YICS tool for less than 10 bucks, no need to buy one. You can use mine anytime. I live in Apex , right next to Raleigh. Send me a e-mail and we'll get together sometime.
