1981 yamaha xj550 Maxim starting trouble

    I replaced the Starter,Battery but now it wont start i got a new starter relay but still nothing. i did use a srew driver on the soilinod and it turned over. so not sure if relay is bad or starter button.

    Or the wiring, the ground straps, or did you by any chance replace the handlebars?

    You could also have a problem with the fusebox, the OFF/RUN/OFF switch, or one of the parts in the safety circuit. Most likely suspect there would be the sidestand switch.

    The safety circuit consists of a sidestand switch, sidestand relay, neutral switch, clutch switch and the safety cutoff relay itself. Add in the "run" switch, the starter switch (the "button") and the ignition switch, and you're looking at two relays and six switches that could be the culprit. Plus the fusebox.

    You need a manual. And a meter.

    You've probably already replaced a bunch of stuff unnecessarily. You might want to actually diagnose the problem before throwing any more parts at it.
