I painted that myself, the guy who had the bike before me painted it gloss black but it was faded and chipping, so i did it myself.

That headlight looks crazy with all the wires but almost every connector is different and the ones that aren't are color coded... i just pulled them all out and put them back together and taped them up good.

ADVICE: use this stuff called varnished cambric to wrap your wires, it keeps the sticky black tape off all of the wires when that stuff gets hot and it makes it much easier to pull off the tape if you have to check/change some wiring. Then wrap it with 2 inch wide electrical tape... easier, faster, and looks nicer.

Thanx 4 posting those pics of all the wires hanging out. Gives me a pics 2 see what I'm getting myself into. 8O What bike is that round headlight off of? Also, I notice on ur bike. Right above the front fender. Theres a "bracket/brace"!?! My bike doesn't have that! Is that stock? or aftermarket?

    Thanx

The light is an after-market one i picked up on ebay, its actually a bulb and not a sealed beam which is what i was looking for.

The thing above the front fender is a fork brace, thats also an after-market part... It helps a lot with the fork flex, and bike doesn't wobble at all even at 100mph+. It supposedly helps with the handling and tire wear too.

Kaos- I actually didn't buy it. The person before me bought it. there are sight all over the place for those things. The older models are probably harder to get though.

    Update on Bike-

Well today i finished up those brackets. I made them out of aluminum scrap i had lying around.

^The paint took forever to dry... well it didn't take that long but i had nothing else to do.

^finished product. I'll take more pictures tomorrow, when i finished it was to dark to take any good ones.

Hopefully my fairing comes in soon so i can put that on. I'm also planning on changing the front turn signals once i get that also.

Can you add a pic of the tail light? It looks like you tucked the rear signal lights under the tail light. If you did how did you do it?

    Looking good!

Nice work so far! Have you tried the horn yet? Seems like it would be pretty quiet mounted inside the headlight can.

-another rainy day out, but it cleared up so i may run outside and snap some pics.

The horn actually faces down through the opening so it is almost as loud as stock, only thing is now i have only one horn instead of two like normal

^The Signals are actually bolted onto where the license plate light is.

^This is the finished bracket for the headlight, the hole above the back bolt is for turn signals once i put the fairing on which i am still waiting for.

^I thought this is a good overall picture of the whole bike after the headlight project.

I was thinking about it, but first I'm adding a front fairing to it, if it doesn't cover up the "super highly intelligent tachometer bucket on XJ's" or S.H.I.T.B.O.X. for short then i may replace it.

Looks good, I have done the same thing with my 750 although mine had the brackets already on the bike, but I had to Bind the back out to mount the light. I have the RH seris that had the full front fairing and hard saddle bags and a trunk. I have a question for you. How are you going to, or are you going to try and cover up the wires that are carefully taped up behind the light? My bike had a leather boot cover that I have wrapped around the wires for now but I want some way to cover/hide the wires. Also if you do replace the gauges and computer let me know what you go with because I really hate that S.H.I.T.B.O.X..Thanks.

I am waiting on my fairing to come in, I made sure those wires are taped up really good so no water can get in there then im just using zip-ties to hold the bundles in place, after the fairing is over it you would never be able to see the wires... I hope. Kinda just making this stuff up as i go, Hopefully it will look good once it's done.
