I'm new to the XJ world and recently got a 1983 XJ900 (853) from a friend that hasn't run in a few years. The engine was seized and electrical was shot. The past few weeks I have been doing the tear down and stripped everything to bare frame.
I have the engine freed but durning disassembly my luck caught up and broke the piston skirt on one of the pistons.
I've been searching here and the google machine for info but am realizing I'm SOL for that.

I was reading different information on the 891 and new (94-03) engines that the only difference is the bore size? 1.5mm difference? But have also read compression and vales are also different.

Wondering if anyone has anything solid on this as I'm thinking of getting a set of 891 (or newer style) cylinders and pistons to put on and matching the heads up. Not sure if it has been done or can be but looking at them and the gaskets seems too close and temping to try.

If anyone has a input or wants to add to the "I have a new boat anchor" will be a help.

    Thanks.
