For those that remember me telling a bit about my incredible find......it's now running, I've had it on the road, registered, and insured for two weeks now. I'm averaging 47 mpg, and that includes the WOT, 90mph spurts just to see what it's got....as well as easy riding. Holy cow, does she have snot! I've put about 475 mi on her since I first fired her up. Not bad for this early production 900.....it's the 17th one built in My 650 started wimpering and whining earlier this evening when I went out to the shop, so I think I will take that one out for a bit soon. :)
Pretty soon the XJ700 will get back onto the road, too. I just have to finish the carbs and get new tires on, then head for insurance and registration. May even get the tires this weekend!

    XJ650K Maxim - daily rider
XJ900RK Seca - daily rider when I'm not on the 650
XJ700 Maxim - back on the road within a week

seven others in various stages of life and makes.

    Good job, Bro!
Do the Gas Gauge and Clock work?

Examine the inside-bottom of the Drive Shaft Boot.
There's a drain hole on the bottom of the Boot.
But many of the 900's didn't have that Drain Hole "Opened"

    You're right about the Giddy-yap!
Crank that Throttle Grip and hang-the-fugg-on ... you're going fast!

MaximumX -Pic is in my gallery.

RickCoMatic, yep....everything works. gas gauge tends to get to empty prematurely but I can live with that. I just got 215 mi before refilling. I'm still learning just how much/little gas is in there. Clock works too, as do all the backlights. I'll check for the drain hole. Thanks for the tip.

Sorry about that Dave. Shoulda checked there first...

Great looking bike though! And I'm envious of your under-tank scoops. Mine didn't come with any... Also, have you noticed any cracking on the fairing? Mine's got some hairline cracks around the headlight and I've heard that it's a common issue on these bikes.

no cracking at all. Three of the plastic bolts/nuts missing or broken. I have nos one on order from Chacal.... along with an OEM seat cover that he happened to have. :)

I am toying with the idea of sanding the edges of the engine fins so that it looks right like the bike on the written review in an old magazine issue that I have. I haven't decided if I want to do that yet, though.

I would think that the under-tank scoops were standard. Does your's have the reflectors that mount there also? (just underneath the scoops)

This one still has the decal on the windshield, as well as all the decals/stickers on the shocks.

It's not brand new, and it's not a trailer queen, but it looks pretty darn good from even just a foot away. I do have a couple of cotterpins that need to be replaced due to some minor rust.

    Thanks for looking!

    Dave

What to go buddy! I recently got my 83 XJ900 running well and she's a beast. You hit about 5 grand and KA-POW - out the shute you go! My only problem right now is a non-function front brake master cylinder so I gots to be careful riding on the rear brake only. I think it might be time for a new front brake master cyl. Anyway, congrats on getting 900 running strong. They sure are great bikes!
