I received a 1985 xj700 x from my uncle and the wiring was basically non existent. So I'm starting from the ground up but I cannot find any information on how to wire the IC Ignitor. I have had no luck with any schematics and the 1 video I could find wasn't too helpful. If anyone is able to help with a diagram that would be amazing.

I should get a manual but need to wait some time to receive it. I guess I should also explain my issue clearer. I have a '85 xj700x that has no spark. My regulator and T1D14-35 module, if i'm not mistaken, is not hooked up correctly. I have power coming in from positive, ground to negative on my regulator, and 3 white wires connected randomly to the stator. Im not sure if that matters, but if it does let me know. A brown and green wire also have a connection that travels past the starter. My T1D14-35 module has a red striped white wire that connects to both coils; one coil connects a grey wire, the other an orange wire. This module also has another connector that travels past the starter. Let me know your thoughts.

Here's a snap shot of the wiring diagram:

Thank you Tony. I think I got everything hooked up correctly but I'm not sure since I'm still not getting any spark. I'm just trying to wire the bare minimum so I can see if this engine runs. Your diagram was a little hard to read but from what I can see I've got the regulator and the tci hooked up correctly, still no spark. Any advice?

Ok so I mapped out my issue. I think I made the diagram the way my connections are and I now I am not sure I have this hooked up properly.

Is my TCI supposed to be hooked up like this? Let me know if I am supposed to hook my TCI up differently than this, thank you.

Keep in mind I am missing most of my components. I am not even sure if this will start the bike to run.

Right click the image and save it. If you have a picture viewer on your computer you'll be able to expand it.

If you have components missing such as the gauge set with the fuse box missing it will be difficult to trace what should have a power or ground.

The bike is complete with the original wiring that's not hacked up right?

The thing you're leaving disconnected is where the TCI gets its voltage feed. No spark without incoming volts.

Yes Tony, when I received the bike it was completely torn apart. There is only one remaining panel for the side, and the kid, my young cousin, who owned it before me was trying to turn it into a chopper. All accessories were missing, the diode was the only remaining component hooked up and he had the harness off. I realized that the TCI component was not receiving power, only after I made that diagram, so I looked up how to wire the TCI component. Turns out the one image I was skipping past on my search engine was one that worked. Here is my modified version. My Wires(Modified Steve0).jpg
Now I have hope, and I have spark! I threw a little starter fluid at it and it ran for a second. Let me know if I have this hooked up properly. It is definitely not stock, but ill check the posts to see if someone says its too dangerous before I proceed, but next I will try a little gas to see if it runs and check to make sure the bike shuts down on disengaging the main switch. Also sorry for the terrible diagrams, I am 99% positive that this is the way my bike is setup now but I could be missing something.

OK, with the basic wiring so far except there should be no additional 12v source to the TCI other than the one off the main switch. Eliminate the wire from the solenoid to the TCI.

You will need a complete wiring harness if you want to get the bike back to it's original state that includes all the safety features, fan, temp gauge, etc. Making one from scratch would be a huge pain.

So I've got the bike running, now I'm working on deep cleaning the carbs. I'm having a rough idle, and the bike is constantly dying on me but with enough throttle at the right moment I get it down the road. There is no way I can afford to get this bike original unfortunately. The previous owner removed the rear end to make a bobber and I have 1 remaining side panel. Now I'm trying to figure the cooling system out. It is intact but I'm not sure of the condition of the hoses and o-rings. This project is proving to be a tough one but hopefully I can get the carbs cleaned in the next few days.

Good to hear that you got it running. However, it sounds like you should sell it as a running parts bike.

Have you checked the valve clearance? I know the Genesis engine doesn't need it as often, but it will greatly effect how it runs.

Sounds to me like he's having fun and should keep at it.
I recently witnessed 4 or 5 motorcycles that started out as parts bikes a year ago, finish a ride from coast to coast.

I took the carbs apart and all the needle jets locked up and were covered in black flecks. Someone worked on these before, the tops of some of the jets were butchered. Hopefully I can get everything back together safely but I should just get new carb kits. Trouble is I'm having a hard time finding the kits. Floats 1 and 4 are synched and 2 and 3 are synched, but I need to remove the floats to clean the needle valves but I'm worried I'm going to break the posts that hold the pins to the float. It looks like if I get the kits I'll be golden. Yes K-Moe I'm having a blast fixing this. I've got the supplies for a manometer but I'm a little worried about the way the engine will look inside.

I really should be taking pictures. Maybe I'll get some of the jets inside the carb. And I actually can find a single carb kit, I just would like to get a full set of 4 like my brothers 750.

Ok I'm waiting for a response, I found a rebuild kit but I'm thinking all I need is the jets since they are marred on the surface. I'm having a hard time finding the needle valve. I've looked at the catalog and maybe I skipped over it.

Anyone have any recommendations on a good air filter for the mikuni carbs? I hear the air flow for the single carb filters may be too high and need flow restriction. I can get the stock filter housing but I was curious about other options.

Ok, so I'm working on the carbs
    20160929_234217.jpg
My needle valve is locked in all 4 of the carbs. I tried using some needle nose pliers but I'm afraid I'm going to damage something if I pull harder. Any ideas?

Soak carbs in fresh gasoline, or kerosene, or spray some carb cleaner to loosen up the gunk.

PBblaster, or kroil, and careful use with a micro torch. A little heat will soften the o-ring so you can pull it out. You're gonna replace them anyway, so who cares if the o-rings get melted or torn on the way out. If you end up messing up the brass, too-- then get replacements from Len along with all the other stuff. When you put the new ones in, a light smear of grease, or oil, ands hey 'll pop right into the bore,

Got them, though there are 1 or 2 not too badly damaged. So here's a question I can't get some light shed on. Can I do a carb dunk with the butterfly valves on? The screws are peened on the backs and are proving tough to remove. I should find the Japanese style Phillips screwdriver if I need the valves off before the dip.

If you dunk, you'll kill throttle shaft seals and other stuff.

Open the butterflies and carefully file the peen flat, then remove screws.

Definitely get a set of JIS screwdrivers. I highly recommend you get the Allen cap screws for the butterflies when you rebuild

Ugh. So I realized if I tighten the screws first they'll snap free, this was after I stripped one. It's not too bad but now I gotta figure out go to safely remove the last screw without damaging the top anymore. Any thoughts? I'm going to wait before I try again.

Ok managed to clean all the carbs, got the bike running again, but now when I throttle it sounds like it's about to die but then picks up. When I release the throttle It slowly returns to idle. Any ideas why?

Vacuum leak. Did you fit new throttle shaft seals?
