    Good day all.

I’m in need of a #4 carb body (unpainted Hitachi HSC33) for an 85 XJ700N Maxim (air cooled). It must be in good shape with good internal threads for the pilot fuel mixture screw (mixture screw should easily screw in and seat). Mine started fine, but became hard to turn well before seating (verified against other carb bodies fully seated with a depth gauge). I attempted to chase with a tap and it started fine, but when I reached the problem area, a half turn more resulted in snapped threads. It could potentially be heli-coiled, but I’m sure someone probably has an extra good body. If it’s dirty or needs gutted/cleaned that is no problem; I can soda blast and clean ultrasonically.

Also, can someone verify that a #2 body could be substituted? It appears identical as far as which side the bowl vent/overflow is open on.

    Thanks in advance.

    PM sent, Dan.

I just looked again and you’re right; the #4 carb fuel supply port is closed on the right side of #4 and open on both sides on a #2 carb. I verified this with Len as well.

All 4 bodies for the xj700 are different. None are interchangeable within the rack.

    All,

Dan sold me a good #4 carb body. I received it today, ran it through a few heated ultrasonic sessions, followed by spray carb cleaner/compressed air, and it’s good as new.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy something from Dan again; he was responsive with communication, and friendly/helpful.

Thanks again, Dan. Looking forward to getting my Maxim tuned, synced and back on the road!
