24 hours ago I was riding one of these:

A 1996 Honda Shadow ACE, belonging to my son. He needed a light bar and a few other farkles installed, so we switched bikes for a couple of weeks.
    My Seca was returned today.
Riding the ACE made me appreciate how light and nimble a Seca 750 is. I had only put about 200 miles on the ACE, but had started getting used to it.
The moment that I pulled away on my Seca it felt like I was riding a 250cc motocross bike.
This is yet another reason why I know that I have the right machine for me.

24 hours ago I was riding my XJ home after watching the cavs take the finals. Nothing like blasting down the highway on a warm night after your local team had its biggest victory in 50+ years.

    Congratulations.

It'll be the Blazers turn next year (he said; the same way he's said it for the past 39 years).

Now it's the new shcool year. This tired teach will be around a bit less for the next several months, but I'll be on when I can.

Yikes, they are starting earlier and earlier. I am in one of the few districts that still starts after labor day.

Thank you for what you do. It's a thankless job for those who do it well and go the extra mile. My mom was a teacher, most years until retirement in the inner city schools.

Nothing fancy; just a few pics from last week's ride.

Knew a guy with an RZ about 15 years ago... rode along (usually far behind) as he split lanes on the back wheel through rush hour traffic in downtown Ottawa. That's when I decided that an RZ was too much for me. Will always lust for them, and never own one.

This was still sitting in the garage, the same as it is now.

Of course I was in bed dealing with a cruddy lung and poor breathing. I'm feeling much better now.

She's my '82 Virago 920 project. I'm not exactly what she'll look like hen done just yet, so I'm concntrating on mechanicals befor th full teardown. The engine spins free and makes good compression. I'm partway though a single-carb conversion (dumb throttle plate screws would not come out of the rear carb without some damage being done to the throttle plate). I've got a friend that wants a single carb done on her bike, so I'll use this one to get familliar with the process. Eventually this will probably go back to dual carbs. I'm torn on the cyclotron. I like the utility (dual range tach for setting idle, hot-swappable Km/M display, fuel gauge), but not the look. If I go with a faired bike I think I'll integrate the display into the fairing. In all likelyhood this will probably end up not being a faired bike though.

At the end of last week it was 60 degrees and I was riding my XJ to work. Now it is 25 degrees and 5 inches of snow.

Bike had been prepped, oil change, Stabil in tank, etc...so all I need to do is swap it in the back of the garage with snow blower, cover it, and plug in the battery minder.

However, I'm having the end of season blues. My XJ looked cold and lonely this morning...

I asked for vanity plates for Christmas, with my bike's model number on them....similar to Jayrodoh's.

24 hours ago this little bugger was stuck in my spare #4 carb body.

Whoever thought of the split point drill should have a monument erected in his honor at the front door of every hardware store.

And now I have a fully functional #4 carb. The one I've been running for the past two years has a stripped idle mixture screw thread, so I resorted to seting the idle mixure via the clever use of a dial indicator, teflon tape, and a quick-setting rubber adhesive. Managed to get it spot on too :)

OH, we had snow last week. Almost an inch and a half. And it got below zero ºF. And the furnace quit (fixed now though). I think we'll have a real winter after-all.

24 hours ago my fuel bottle was still missing, and the tube looked like this.

So today I fixed that problem. Bought a new cap, drilled it to take an insert (I used a plush-nut since I had several on hand; epoxied it in place), and once I get a suitable latching knob the cap won't go missing ever again (unless I lay it down and forget to put it back on).

I am writing from the future.

24 hours ago there was only 1/8" of ice on the powerlines, and I had electricity and internet access.

    Back to the present.
Let's see how that works out.

Sill have power. I remember seeing that on the news. It reminded me of the ice storms we had in Oregon in '78 and '79, though the cleanup from those didn't take quit as long.
There's about 1/4" to 1/2" of ice accumulation so far, but the bulk of the storm is still moving towards us. Woodward OK was hit hard last night, and has a lot of power outages throughout the city and surrounding farms due to over an inch of ice. Work has been cancelled for tomorrow. I"m just going to be lazy, enjoy the fact that I have done this thing before (we used to live in the coutryside, so emergency prep is a normal thing for us), and maybe go out and take a few pictures before the rain starts up again.

Sounds like you are prepared and not scared!

"They" are saying we should have ice pellets tomorrow late afternoon from the same system. Ice pellets is better than rain which freezes on everything it touches . . . . I'm campaigning for plain old snow. :D

    Trees breaking.
    Power poles falling.
    Brownouts.
    Lightshows.
Blackouts (including us for about an hour).
    Repair crews working.
And the worst part of the storm isn't here quite yet.

    Well....lots of trees down

    Lots of power lines down

And we just had a limb from our big cottonwood hit the house feed and take out a leg. We have power, but I'm not sure if it'll start the well pump.

Lots of people are worse off, so I'm sitting back and waiting my turn.

This isn't my video (I need a drone so bad now) but it shows what the area looks like.
Such a shame that Ice isn't lighter. It makes everything look so pretty.

The first crane you see is still holding up the power lines that feed my neighborhood. I love cranes. So useful.

One of my biggest regret after our ice storm was that I was too busy foraging for food and firewood and booze to get any decent pictures. When you see a downed 60 foot power tower, it's something you'll want to remember later. Also wish I hadn't parked the Prelude under that tree... so began her demise.

Well, having been through several ice storms, I was prepared to live in the 1800's for a while.

The main transmission towers were replaced about ten years ago when the last big round of freezing rain came through. The new towers are more betterer.

I had time enough for some artsy-fartsy pictures. This is one of the best from Saturday, before the ice got really bad.

The Power Pole of Levitation, +10 to stamina.

Temps will be in the low 40's, and the sky is clear, so we should be ice-free before dark. Hopefully the remaining 3,000 outages will be resolved by then.
