    you made me put my pants on and go out to the garage. here's what i found, it's not too cold and even with the spring, washer and oring off i couldn't get the screw down that far on five carbs.
    there's a bevel down that hole that the oring hits to make a seal, that could be too low or the threads too deep or both. if the spring is too short to seat the oring on that bevel that could be a problem that maybe stretching the spring out a little could fix ???
    the oring not being seated might act like a vacuum leak, don't know, never had one that far out of adjustment.
    the mark on the butterfly could be a stain from a bypass hole in there?

    Why aren't we out riding then instead of sat indoors pantlessly reading the XJbikes forums? :lol:

    That is interesting though that you didn't get protrusion (maybe it WAS too cold? 8O ) even with spring/washer/o ring removed... Got to be some damage to the carb body then if all the pilot screws are *definitely* the same?
