Will the 83 650 turbo engine fit in the standard 82 650 Seca frame and is there a place to mount the Turbo? Also what are the pros and cons of doing this. Are there any airbox modifications I would have to look into?

The engine will bolt in. You will have to fabricate tabs for the oil cooler if your bike doesnt have one from the factory. You will have to fabricate a mount for the turbo or cut one from a seca turbo frame. The airbox cannot be used with the turbo setup because in its place is an aluminum intake which is used to blow air into the carbs. Also your carbs cannot be used, the ignition module is different, and the wiring harness is too. You can make a non turbo harness work but you would need the plugs that connect to the ecu, the boost sensor w/wiring, and fuel pump/relay/wiring. The petcocks are different also.

the seca turbo used the standard seca 650 frame. the only differences are those required for the turbo, ie. turbocharger mount, oil cooler mount, fairing mounts, etc. if you were to for example, have a wrecked seca turbo with bent frame, and simply needed a frame to swap into, a standard seca frame would be an easy swap if you have access to a small welder, and the time and desire to do the swap.

    hey 83xjturbo,
this is interesting, does this mean a turbo tank would fit a normal seca frame? And so on to a normal 1982 seca 750?

    i would be thrilled!

A Turbo tank will fit the standard 650/750 mounts, but.... without the Turbo skins, the tank is pretty ugly, and to mount the turbo skins, you need all the extra tabs on the frame. Also, the petcock on the Turbo is not vacuum-operated, so you would have to either adapt a not-Turbo petcock or add an inline shut-off valve to avoid flooding the engine.
