I recently bought a 1986 XJ700 maxim and the PO put air pods on it as well as removed the muffler ends. I have an oe air box as well as the original mufflers. My question is, how does one put the air box back in? Do I need to remove the whole carb and all that?
I have some experience with single carbs and air boxes from working on a 83 Honda CM250, but this is a whole different beast I’m looking at.

Someone will know better than I, but no need to remove the carbs. The air box goes under the seat and the boots fill in the space between the carbs and the airbox. Mine is stock, so I have no idea how to remove--or in your case, replace it.
