Now you guys got me curious.

I've got one from an FJ600 buried in a box in the garage somewhere; I'm going to count the rows and see how deep it is. It's got an exact "family resemblance" to the one pictured.

    Oil Sensor difference.

Just to drive me crazy I finally worked out, after stripping and cleaning the sensor that came with the 900 engine, that the 900(31A) and the 750(5G2) oil sensors are exactly opposite in the way they work.

The 31A sensor is normally open(NO) when raised(oil level good or high) and the 5G2 sensor is normally closed(NC) when raised(oil level good or high).

This as you may expect caused a lot of glummnes and bogglement till I tested and read the schematics over and over.

At any rate... something to keep in mind!

Bit down the track now and the bike is a lot of fun to ride although I'm still having a running rich problem of sorts.

I haven't had the opportunity to compare the airboxes from the 750 and the 900 so I was hoping some kind soul would post a pic of a 900 airbox with a couple of measurments of the inlet hole size?

I'm thinking i have a lack of air available since I'm using the stock 750 airbox, maybe the 900 airbox would slot in?
But changing the inlet size might be simpler than pulling the engine at this point too.

    Thanks again.

Want to swap a brand new in box Seca sensor for the 900 one?
My Koso instruments need a non Seca one, but I have a spare new one I bought 2 years ago.

    Hi,
Is the hole letting the air into the airboxes the same size in the 750 and 900 airbox also?
I'd think the external dimensions would be damn close, for sure but I was thinking about altering just the inlet air hole.

    Thanks again

I got them out & put them side by side , the 750RL & the 900's are the same. I'll organise a pic in the next post.

LOL Darkfibre .... I have a mate on a Ninja 1400 & another on a Blackbird that will need convincing that my XJ doesn't go well. 8)

    Thanks for taking the pics.

See that inlet pipe in the rear of the airbox with the broken off cover? thats the bit I want to compare.

The actual internal diameter of that would restrict the possible air inflow to the box.

The reason im stuck on this a bit is that the airbox i have is from a 750, with the cover on top, and would normally supply air to 32mm Hitachi carbs but it is now supplying air to the 35mm mikuni carbs on the 900 and it seemed to me that, with all the little variations i've seen so far in mind, yamaha may have also done something at the inflow end of the system.

Any chance you could take a couple of measurements of that hole from the top of both boxes?

Might save me from putting pods on.... oh... what now?!

    Thanks again.

I removed the tube & the hole in the top of the box is 42mm x 78mm. The ID of the hose is 34mm x 72mm & its length is 77mm. 8)

    Thanks!
Thats interesting because the hole in the airbox with the tube removed is 37mm x 61mm and the ID of the Tube on the 750 airbox im using is 25mm x 51mm and 83mm long.

I think I see a variation! Time to do some modifications i think.

Thanks again for the help on this.

    A question about the 750P Stator & cover ... :?
Did they fit straight on or was a mod required?

No problem, straight on fit with the 750P stator and cover onto the 900.

Small... maybe HUGE... but an update to my favourite project.
Just managed to get a hold of XJ900 front and rear wheels along with swingarm, rear calipre and final drive.
Had to stretch the XJ750P frame by 7mm to get the swingarm to fit.
Also finally got around to customising the crash bar to fit the 900 oil cooler.
    Fun fun!
