Nice! Just read through this, you're going to have a beautiful bike when you're done. The pride and feeling that you did it yourself will far outweigh the feeling from any bike you'd buy that was ready to ride.

I'm 10 months into my "quick fix" bike :)

Thank you all for the kind words. It is still a long way to be road ready.

I have rebuilt the brake fluid reservoir and have new brake lines but they need to be installed, rebuild front brakes, get all electronics hooked up as of right now the wiring harness has nothing to it.

At this pace I am about another year or two away from getting this one on the road.

I speak from recent experience I just pulled an Xj650 out of a barn in may 24.
Wasn’t sure if I was in over my head but with the advice and information from the people on this site I have brought this one back to life.
You are going to have a blast with your project.
There will be ups and downs but when you finally register the bike and get it back on the road you won’t be able to wipe the smile off your face riding it good luck and I am looking forward to seeing updates

    Paul,
Well, eco's new approach has been to slide this over into my garage and let me have a crack at it. I've been slowly digging into it and finding out what needs to be done.
I suppose I could post a few pictures of it, but it's just laying there in pieces/parts!

    Good Luck with your project.
I had to fabricate the side covers (they are actually just a flat piece of thin steel)
I took the paint down to bare metal and painted the tank and sides in my shed using rust oleum paint and a clear coat 2 max.
I learned a lot from this site and u tube university. If you have any questions reach out I will help you with anything I can .
I even replaced the seat cover myself 36.00
    lol

@shotgunsmitty , where in NC are you? While riding in the mountains is awesome most of the time, right now not so much. But we do get to ride all winter.
    Good luck with your project.

lol it was 31 degrees when I left on my bike for work. Tomorrow it’s gonna to be 42 but I hope to ride until November 15 . Southern New Hampshire in the fall wouldn’t change it if I could. Good luck to all!
