You need a garage; or at least a carport. Maybe even just a "tent" canopy like a yard sale or something. And some cheap plastic tarps.

...or an understanding mother-in-law, a good neighbor, a couple friends, an attic, a wife who lost track of how many bikes are actually around, AND a bunch of tarps..................................

    DAMHIKT----- LOL

(and I only put the canopy up for the carb clinics....though I DID pick up one of the permanent yellow ones earlier this spring, and may actually set it up and use it.........too-----)

IT sounds like the first thing I need is move closer to Master Shifu and a Carb Clinic host with AAA rating like Dave. Or at least to a different place where the HOA would let me pile them up on the yard. I am surprised I have not gotten a letter from my HOA because of the current bikes that are not in working condition.

Seriously, consider getting either one of the 10x12 or 12x12 garden sheds from sears or somewhere. An afternoon of bolting it together, and you have a good storage spot. Or, for$200.00 get a 'portable garage" canopy=type thing from Harbor Freight........Or, a smaller lawnmower/utility shed from ShelterLogic or build your own......

Guys, besides my HOA only allowing one outbuilding, I already have a shed with a table saw, bicycles, lawn mower and cornhole set.

Today I wanted to get he shims out and fifure out what I need but I had to work so I had a bit of time before it got dark.

I got half way and so far I found some pretty large shims one 275 and two 290s.

Here is the killer, one of them seems like it has been moving a bit or it was used at some point in life with the numbers right up. When I found it the numbers were down but here is a picture of what I found:

I will have to use one from the other engine and measure again to figure out what needs to go there.

Oh well, like Dave said it will get done when it gets done.

    Yup, that's a Y2--. I have a few of them, too. LOL

Anyway, here's what you do......take your clearance measurement, and you're almost set. Do you have a dial or digital caliper? Measure the thickness of the shim, no need to put another in. Just measure what you have there. If you're not able to do that, send it up and I can measure it here. Easy.

PM me, or call or txt.....................

I sure will send stuff your way, I can't figure out where my digital caliper is to save my life. I found two more with erased numbers. One I can take a guess and it looks like a 285 but not 100% sure. There was one with no numbers at all... this is a bit annoying, but oh well.

Dave, as soon as I have enough zip ties to hold all the valves opened I will send you all the numberless plus what I need to swap.

i wouldn't try to hold all the valves open at once.

Ok, so this time measuring and taking valve shims was a lot quicker. I found my digital caliper to measure the shims without numbers. Just to make sure I also double checked to make sure that I didn't write things backwards and yes... I did. I had the intake shims as the exhaust and viceversa when writing things down. So I am glad this is a new habit for me "measure twice, order once".

So here are the numbers "Final answer"

    EXHAUST
    Clearance: 0.22 ---- 0.12 ---- 0.12 ----0.18
    shims: ---- 275 ---- 275 ----- 275 -----280
    needs: ----280 ----- 270----- 270 ----- 280

    INTAKE
    Clearance: 0.15 ----0.18 ---- 0.11 ---- 0.17
    shims: -----290 ---- 290 ----- 290 ----- 285
    needs: -----290-----295 ------290 ----- 290

    SPECS:

    Exhaust: 0.16~0.20mm
    Intake: 0.11~0.15mm

I will be sending Dave a PM soon with this week's order.

Well... after a short brake taking on other small projects and still having to paint my house I am getting back to getting this puppy back on the road. I got shims from Dave and the little wrens have fledge from the nest they built on the butchered airbox.

Now is time to get the new shims in and move forward.

    ALright,

So I finally got to swap shims on the engine. This should be interesting, trying to work on the 650 and the 750 at the same time.

The good think is that it cuts on shipping. I ordered two sets or carb bowl drain screws (the hex upgrade from chacal) and new fuse boxes since both have the original original ones and seem to be a common source of headaches.

Today I spent two hours dismantling the parts bike. I finally had some time and an upcoming deadline to take all parts off this bike to start recommissioning the original bike. Quite a few parts are a lot better on this bike than the original one:

A little more time on the parts bike, wiring harness is off and the swing arm out of the way. At this point the only thing left is the front fork and engine. It may be easier to move the engine around the yard in the basket.

This project that I originally thought it would take 3 months has taken a few turns and here I am 9 months later with nothing but tubs full of parts.

Luckily I my daughter's birthday is approaching and the driveway has to be cleaned. This was the perfect motivation to tackle this task and store all the actual parts off the bike:

The wife had to work today so I am at home with the peanut. She asked me to clean if possible, you all know where there is a will there is a way so I cleaned.

I am not sure if she is going to like what I decided the clean (polish).

I think that is exactly what she meant. She may have mis-understood herself.
