small individual air filters that clamp to each carb instead of having boots feeding from the airbox.

This addresses my question. Where would you start when adding a header/exhaust AND pods. Is there a website or something, or should you contact the header manufacturer.

The only real authorities on Tuning for Pods and Headers are: Helen Waite and Donna DeRhode.

When you ask a busy tech a question about tuning for Pods, he tells you to: "Go to Helen Waite"

Where can I get tuned for Pods and Header?
    "Not here. Try Donna DeRhode"!

so the pods actually do give individual carbs the better performance it would seem so anyway

My Seca 750 came with a 4 - 1 Mac and pods, and 118 jets (down from 120) According to Chacal's formula, 124's would be better.
Or at least the place to start fine-tuning.
Hope that answers the new Kevin's Q

For the old Kevin- - ever think that since a 650 Maxim has a milder cam, that your experience with pods might not apply to 750's as well?
And that you're giving this "no prob with pods" advice to everybody?
Just seeing if you podded any other XJ.

(and I removed my engine and installed an airbox)

I don't think it's fair for anyone to flat-out make a recommendation to a newbee saying that "Converting to Pods will increase performance."

I think that we should adopt a disclaimer that serves as a caution and a warning to those thinking about converting to Pods.

"Converting to Pods changed the Intake characteristics on an otherwise restricted air intake system.
Depending on the Condition of your Engine the Pods might to have the Carbs re-Jetted for a change to a Lean condition and there is the possibility that they will not be able to provide accurate tuning throughout the Power Band.

    A disclaimer is needed.
Like the do for medicines advertised on TV.
