Airbox debauckle help please

    Oops i made a big boo boo with the airbox, got the motor all painted up look'in pretty cool, got all engrosed with trying to get the motor back in while i had help, only to realise that we forgot to place the airbox back in before we got started.

    I tried to fit the airbox in there, but its to tight with the motor in, so im either gonna with the pvc route or dredfully deal with the stock airbox. What to do, What to do, What to do :?: :idea: :?: :idea:

    It would be easier to remove the engine and reinstall the airbox than try to tune the carbs with a pvc intake.

    What bike are you working with??
    My 83 750 Maxim
    I was able to fit mine in with removing the #3&4 carb manifolds and the front mounting bolts out. You'll have just enough room. If you have a similar bike.

    So, ... you forgot the Airbox!

    You could try forcing it in and tearing an Intake Manifold.
    Then you have to take-off the Manifold.
    You might break-off a Manifold Bolt.
    It's been known to happen.

    What to do? What to do?

    If you think you are going to be the first guy to ever successfully be able to Fine Tune a XJ-Bike without an Airbox; I don't think you'd have bothered to ask.

    Pull the Engine and put the Airbox in where it belongs.
    Back-track a bit and stay on course to eventually get the Bike Fine Tuned.

    Nobody can GUARANTEE you'll ever Fine Tune the Bike if you leave it out.

    Cool video, i guess i did'nt want to force the airbox in thinking i was gonna scratch the paint. But the video makes the job look easy, so sinse i dont have my manifolds on yet, i'll drop the motor foward tomarrow and give it another try. :idea:

    I would first recommend pulling the engine, put in the airbox, and put the engine back in.

    Second way- I have also had success using a heat gun to soften the sides of the square part of the airbox, fold it up put it in place while still plenty warm and keep it real warm while slowly unfolding and smoothing it out. If you go carefully and methodically, you can do it with out any marks when you're done.
