I removed the starter, battery box, and still could not get past manifolds. I was hesitant to remove those, as I've read here those 5mm like to snap, and nobody got time for that. In the end I broke the box a bit on the right side and it gave me just enough room to squeeze the box out around the frame. I was lucky and the broken spot snaps back in to place nicely.
so yeah, no real question here. Just wanted to say WTF. Was is that so damn hard?

should have heated up the air box with a heat gun.
likely at the factory the motor was not in the frame when box was installed

The break kinda snuck upon me. I didn't really have much force applied. But like I said, it is now quite easy to remove and install.

Yamaha didn't want you to remove the airbox. And there design was so good that it requires that space to work.have seen it done by undoing the engine mounts except for rear lower one and let the engine tilt forward slightly.

Why did you want to remove in first place... PLEASE do NOT put Pods on ... these are only going to be problems ...flat spots, experimenting with jets , and better hope you do not get caught in the rain IE water in cylinder not cool .

Removing the battery, battery box,and starter makes it far easier to remove the air box.
