I hate to widdle in anyone's cornflakes, but the cover of my Clymer manual says it's for FJ600, XJ550 and XJ600, 1981-1992. FJ even gets "top billing." Gotta be more than a passing resemblance if we can use the same manual...I know the "tipped" the engine forward in one of them, making pipes and other ancillaries differ, but the engines are basically the same, are they not?

Thank you! That's exactly what I was wondering.

And also, what's the best manual to get...Clymer, Haynes, ?

Not from my eyeball on the Radian in my storage. Yamaha is famous for using off the shelf parts to make new bikes so a lot of stuff will swap but the engine is a no-go. I'll agree to similarity but not to sameness.

Well, guys, gave up on the FJ and bought my old cruiser back from my brother. If anyone is in the area and would like the bike, it's available...probably for nothing.

Sorry, barn is full right now and you are just too far away. Best of luck on it, you might return to play with it later, you never know.

gee that fj really looks similar to my 85 xj 900. all of the plastics, tank and guages look the same to me. the mechanicals must be different as yours seems to be a chain drive and the 900 is a shaftie.
