we have a member here who has a tank for sale as of a few weeks ago.
you could always sell the aftermarket parts to recoup some of the price you pay

I always dislike it when the mileage isn't disclosed in the ad. Sure it's a project. But is it a project that'll contain a positive end result?

Yeah, I saw that, and I'm curious about their info. Only 750 of that model? Anyone confirm or deny?

Thanks Dave. Still no exact number. Why wouldn't Yamaha keep records of these things? And release the info to the public? I can find piano databases galore, but not much for bikes!

A Japanese bike broken down to bits is parts only.
Unless it is some rare race bike it's just not worth the hassle and expense of reviving.
A British bike or Harley is different. Restorations are much easier (but not cheaper) since the aftermarket support it.
I built a BSA from jumble I thought was complete but ultimately was missing a lot of bits.
It astonished me to find many obscure parts re manufactured and available brand new.
All you need to restore a Brit bike is some old engine cases and a thick wallet.
The Harley just needs a thick wallet.
As time goes on this may change as more guys begin restorations of Japanese bikes and their value increases.
Lots of stuff for Kawasaki Z1's are being re manufactured, probably triples now to.
Chacal is doing an amazing job with our XJ's.

Haha. I mean. Really. It has a title so it should be worth at least the xbox1 +2 video games!!! Geesh. That’s gotta be around the 100-120$ mark for a titled motorcycle. He didn’t say it all needed to be new stuff. Hmm.
My dad would be shaking his head and asking himself where he went wrong. Oh the guilt.

and people wonder why we say "don't cut". More than half of the cut frames don't end with a running bike!

Damn, the owners manual goes for nearly that price online! And why would you buy a new front tire at that stage of the build? Seems like the cart is before the horse!

Or the horse is an @$$

For $50, who cares if it ran.

''Ran before Teardown".....I'm sure it did! I'm also sure it looked good before Teardown, too. It was probably very safe before Teardown, as well.

I don't have a problem with people cutting their bikes up. I have a problem with them destroying the bike. The problem is that so many aim for the former and attain the latter. Bike building looks so easy on teevee, anyone can do it, right? Well, the large amount of "project/parts" hack jobs for sale out there say otherwise. Congrats to the few who succeed, warnings to those who fail.

    What dumb things to say:

Hasn't been used for over 18 years.
    >so, ignored for almost 2 decades

Needs to be flushed and cleaned before use.
    >duh

Driven for 14ks by a woman.
    >and that's supposed to mean what?

    Mostly highway.
    >by who, and where were the rest?

Perfect for a new starter bike or a project cafe / bobber
    >yup, someone will start on it, get frustrated, and give up after they cut it up, put pods on, and cant get anything to work right........

Don't have papers on it. (Unless theyre still in the seat box)
    >parts bike

Will sign anything saying it's not stolen.
    > like DMV will honor that!?!

Will need a new ignition/have gas cap key
    >so, some key parts have already been replaced already..... Why not just take the switch off and have a new key made? Duh
