only made the 750 maxim for 2 years 82 and 83. both were different models 82 with atari package and 83 back to standard cluster. midnight was 83 version
so the 82 is a one year bike style and 83 was different design , so by his logic both years are rare styles but does not make them worth 1200 bucks not running.
it is a nice looking Midnight except for the tweeked front fender and ripped seat not 1200 bucks nice

Makes my $350 titled, not running 83 750 midnight maxim look like a better deal even though I am well aware it isn't perfect by any means. Although I did discover it still has the factory tool kit which I thought was cool

No, but it makes me feel better about the running-but-not-road-ready 82 650 Seca I got for $500.

    Agreed 100%.......
    - and with almost 30k on the FADED clock, t to be a list of current shims---otherwise, assume they've never been done
    - rusty pipes up front
    - missing ignition cover
    - missing trunk cover
    - nice flat tire
_ looks like the tank was re-painted

That raises an interesting question: which is rarer, 650 Seca or Midnight Maxim? More desirable? Valuable?

    Midnight Maxim

To quote the great Joe Elliff: "Desire is in the eye of the beer holder."

Depends on too many variables, most of which are completely subjective, and since everyone has opinions, well...........

That is what is referred as a Frisco mounted tank. Never understood the allure of that style.

The slap dash silver paint job on the engine would kinda scare me. Check out the paint on the exhaust header flanges and valve cover.

I don't believe that is a slap-dash paint job. I believe te the cyls and the head have been stripped to show aluminum. The header collars are stripped/paint-worn.....not slap-painted. The exhaust pipes are showing wear, the silvers is where black as worn off and showing bare metal underneath....not more paint slapped around.

I've heard that the CBX carbs are super difficult to tune. Anyone have experience with them?

Yeah, 1000cc, effin' wide monster, 6 carbs to sync... Sounds like an F1 engine. I'm very interested in them, but I doubt I would have the skills necessary to keep one running.

Yeah, the ultimate shots fired in the late 70's superbike wars! If I could afford to build it and hire a staff mechanic, I'd love to build a cbx custom frame chopper

Yeah that makes more sense looking at it again just now. You can see the little rubber pieces in the cooling fins that don't have paint on them.

Yes Giant pita to remove and install. honda uses those aircut valves and if any are bad you have to strip the whole shebang to replace them and accelerator pumps fail as well.
Use 2 sets of carbstixs to sync them. And charge the poor fool that left rotten gas in them an arm and leg to do it.
$1000 for a full re&re is not out of the question. Air cut valves at 30-50$ each if you can find them

Well, being he's the one selling it, and he already lowered the price to $1000, I doubt he'd take less than that right now.......I sure wouldn't. I wouldn't have even lowered it, and for that matter, considering it's missing a taillight, the rear cowl is at a funny angle, and the right side cover is missing (of course it's the right side.....), and the seat is not original contour anymore, I think it started at a very reasonable price to begin with. If those things were resolved, the bike would have a much higher price here!

That all said, being in a pinch and having to sell, makes it a different ballgame, coupled with being in the middle of the winter isn't really going to light a fire under anybody to go buy a ride really quick.

    It looks pretty sharp, otherwise:)
